Trying a new setup for ultra macro. A reverse mounted 28mm lens on a 100m canon macro on canon 7d. Attached pic is a size reduced uncropped first try. Coin is a 1891 large date, obv2 full serif N Canadian cent.

And here is a portion of the same photo, original size cropped to get it down to the 200k limit of what can be posted here

Would be interesting to see the actual setup if you don't mind. Knew about reversing lenses but never tried doing it on top of an existing properly mounted macro.

Looks like the 28mm and 100mm are a good match. Often these combos have a lot of vignetting. Do you have the 100mm set to infinity focus? That is the "normal" way to "stack" lenses, and gives the best performance since both lenses are working at infinity.

I just used the macro to focus, doesn't seem to make much difference weather the focus is set to 10' or infinity, as long as the tip of the 28mm lens ends up slightly over an inch from the coin. This is one of the old macros that changes length as it focuses. Had to set the 28 wide open (f2.8) and open the 100mm to at least f4 to minimize the vignetting.
