Dagaz thanks for posting. Always good to get feedback from other customers. I get a lot of ideas from seeing what other CCF members are doing. I like to share ... Hoping to do the same. --------------- Afab67 ... Glad you like it .......

That is a cool looking box and what a great idea. I can see it becoming a family story/history that might go on for generations.

Very nice progress! :) Can't wait until we get some debt paid off then this is definitely a project I want to get into! Also works out having an LCS where I can get foreign silver for spot price.

Great stuff!!
I almost added a bunch of silver to my box- my dad gave me his collection this week, and I was tempted to add the silver to my box, but decided instead to keep his collection together in its own binder...

I understand that ... and getting coins from your father it might be better to keep them together .. at least for now
I have a lot of U.S. and foreign silver that I have in albums and boxed, that I want to keep separate from this silver.
Maybe someday when I get a bigger box .. I might change my mind.

I did not get much box silver today ... but I picked up some lab created gems .. Hoping to get some opinions on adding a little color to the box.

Looks awesome, GR58. Though personally I'd exclude any coin that needs to be in an AirTite, just for the look.

I get torn between wanting to get a lot of silver in the box vs having the coins retain any possible premium. Even though I am buying most of the silver +/- spot silver, some of does have a premium value. Once I get a bigger box, and it gets full. I might start culling out the better coins/silver.

Quote: Gold is a good color. I hear what your saying coindog. And have been thinking along the same lines. Most of my purchases are from two local shops. When they get something that will fit well into the box, I hope I can pickup some gold.

Not attempting to hijack this thread, but when searching past posts it seemed like this might be a good place to try asking instead of starting a new thread for the question, so here it is:
If one is crafting a storage and/or display box are there specific types of / glues / varnishes / paints / felts / flocks / wood / etc. to either avoid (or to specifically use) in order to avoid chemicals that will have corrosive off-gassing? Thanks for any info you might have!
EDIT: I know of the warnings to avoid PVC containing plastics, because the PVC can harm silver. I imagine that the SGP (did I get that right? standard government packaging?) must have a myriad of odd adhesives and plastics, but haven't heard of any issues with them, so maybe glues or the like are okay given a proper curing period?

@NeoSpec - I believe the term you're looking for is OGP (Original Government Packaging). Though strangely I don't see that term listed in the CCF glossary. I would expect the various mints to be pretty careful about the materials that go into their packaging these days.
I've often contemplating woodworking projects to house some coins and have had the same concerns. There are plenty of threads on it in the supplies forum, and I'm not sure there is a solid consensus. I'm pretty sure it's going to be one of those YMMV things.
In theory, the longer you allow something to air out/dry, the less the off-gassing will be.

Thanks @CelticKnot, I'll go back to the Supplies forum and review some of those discussions. I had a similar thought, that - at least with the adhesives - a proper cure should deal with most or any issues.
PS - @GoldRush I like the colour in the box :) Excellent treasure box!

NeoSpec I read your reply yesterday, because I am not a expert on what the effect a wood box would have on coins.
I agree with CelticKnot that letting the box have a good amount of time to dry .. cure .. air out would have a lot to do with if the coins might be affective.
As he mentioned .. this question has come out before, maybe someone will read this and post link(s).
If I remember right, there have been members in the past, post wood chest/cabinets they had built.
