In a thread about 1859's, both the CCRS site and CCC (Canadian Copper Coin) site were mentioned. The CCRS site WAS the place to go 15 years ago until about 5-6 years ago. For reasons already mentioned, many of the founders and active collectors/researchers left and most requested to have all their old posts removed .. .great research was lost. I, personally had over 8,000 posts removed and many others were above 3,000. The site is still active, but only posts from a coupe people are on the first page and the page covers nearly 2 years. We used to cover a whole page in a day back then. Here is the link: http://www.canadiancoin.com/You still should be able to research the archives for tidbits on information, but many individual posts are missing in the threads The Canadian Copper Coin site, on which I was the moderator, shut down, initially due to hacking from E European phishing sites. The site owner, whom I had never met, couldn't get enough co-operation from the overall sites manager (I'm not up on computer terminology) to shut them down, so he just quit paying them and the site, and all the information was lost. Too bad because there was good info there.

I was a relative newcomer compared to Bill, but a number of us now on this site were active contributors to CCC, my favorite of the two. As moderator on CCC, though, Bill put a tremendous amount into it had to be the record holder for the most posts!

The information was not lost. As far as I know, almost all the major contributors to both sites are still alive and active in the hobby...
So while you folks lament lost websites, I lament the lack of putting pens to paper (or fingers to computer keyboards) and preserving that information in a publication... if you can write on a coin forum, then you can write in the CN Journal (lots of editors are there to help you)...

You're right, the information is not lost. I would love to see all that great information reappear on this forum, and some of it already has.
I was just getting started collecting large cents when the CCC went away, but I had a few months to look through the posts there and learned a lot.
I suppose it was very discouraging for a lot of the posters on that forum, when all that work became inaccessible, but many of us still appreciate the efforts you put forth and still remember many things we learned there. Thanks!!

Glad to hear it was not lost SPP. Will you be at Coin Expo?

Quote: Glad to hear it was not lost SPP. FYI - I was not referring to the posts that were on those forums. Those are gone. The information was (and still is) in the heads of those who originally posted...

Wow, I remember the CCRS... gave me a lot of info when I was just getting started. A real shame that the wheels fell off when they started to demand that everyone post under their real name iirc.

This is a great idea. It would truly be tragic if such information wasn't preserved. For shorter articles that may not be suitable for the CN Journal, I'd also suggest the RCNA NumisNotes newsletter.
