Pretty much all of them...over paying, cleaned, not graded properly, quantity over quality

But I'm better now and much more picky with my hard earned $'s

I bought a decade set of Mercury dimes early in my collecting days and they were all very shiny. This was back when silver was on its rapid rise. After I gained experience as a collector, I realized they were all harshly cleaned and silver had dropped sharply

My biggest mistake(s) were buying 2 Gold $2.50 for stupid money.
My biggest regret is selling off my collection when I moved cross-country about 30 yrs ago. Needed the cash, but let it go too cheap, and it would've been a sweet collection if I still had it. SO now I'm starting again.

Anyway, for me, I don't know! Maybe paying $559 for a 1922 no D cent with a WEAK reverse. It was only a VF.

I was at an estate auction about a year and a 1/2 ago and purchased a Morgan 1882 CC. Oh by the way thought I was bidding on 1881 CC so I over paid. I'll spare you all the details on how that happened. So when I went to pay for my purchases here was this 82 instead of the 81 and the toning was weird. I was angry and in a hurry, so wrote it off as another mistake. Month or so later posted it for grading an opinions only to be told by some that it was the worst counterfeit they had ever seen. I'm permanently scared for life. My therapist said it would be a good idea to share this story.

Ouch.

At least the journey of rebuilding can be quite pleasurable.

Since I am still very much a newbie, I guess that would include my most recent. A few days ago I passed on a burnt and bent Ike that I probably could have had for buck - fifty. To think, I could have made jbuck proud.

Forgetting, while in the coin shop, to buy the a roll or two of 1972-P pennies the owner said (over the phone) he had in stock.

I was young and too caught up in buying my first Morgan - a big deal for a 10 year old in those days. I was just so excited to have my first 1800s coin (1879) that I forgot all about the pennies.

A couple days later the owner was advertising the newly discovered 1972 DDOs. When I asked him about them, he said all the rolls he had were the DDOs.

Think about it... rolls of 72 DDOs for 1.00 ea.!

The only mistake I made as a newbie was not collecting marbles instead of coins .

You can still make me proud. That will not be your last opportunity!
