Quote: I don't know, but I'm just hoping it's not a new (and growing) crack caused by those prongs squeezing too hard. I cannot imagine plastic prongs causing this, I would expect them to give way before the coin does. I think it is from the original strike.

Wow....I'm loving these old English coins. Really impressed, actually.
I wonder if anyone will have some from before the Norman Conquest?

Great English and Hungarian coins folks! Here is a denaro from the Italian republic of Genoa. Attribution is Biaggi 835. I really like the form of the letter "E" on the rev. One of these days, I'm going to have to do a deeper dive into Gothic lettering... [Oops, forgot to include the date: 1139-1252. Sorry about that.]

Here is a Denier from Antioch that I believe was minted between 1163 and 1188 AD. Attribution is Metcalf D-395 and CCS 65 (but I don't own either of these books). Maybe I'm a little off on the dates? On wikipedia, I see that Bohemond I ruled Antioch from 1098 to 1111 AD while his son Bohemond II ruled Antioch from 1111 to 1130 AD. Any thoughts?
