I would've posted my own (rather exotic, not the usual type) 12th century Byzantine already if I made a photo of it.
Alas I didn't (nor did I make a photo of my oldest Chinese coin, also 12th century).

One more 12th Century post for me. Not Byzantine, but a schyphate nonetheless. It is a fractional follaro from Messina (Sicily). It dates to between 1154 and 1168 AD and the attribution is Biaggi 1226. Sorry for the low quality pics, but my camera doesn't have adequate depth of field to be able to capture these guys very well.

Looking forward to the 11th Century on Sunday!

This one has already been posted, but had to share:

Hungary
1 Denar of Bela II, 1131-41

What's interesting is that the metal was stretched so thin for this one, that a section of the coin *fell out* either during striking or circulation, but the thicker rim was left intact.

Starting off the 11th Century with a Hungarian Half-Denar. After this week, I don't expect anything else from Hungary. Here is a link to my write-up on this coin:

Jbuck, I have missed the 12th century.
I have some coins that can be dated that period.
Is it ok to post them today (in one post?)

Great coins! :)
@spence: Always good to see a Stephan I. (One of my favourit coin.) Still not sure, your coin (Stephan I.) is a half-denar. Most of the Hungarian literatures are write denar or "silver coin". :)

@flippy, that is an awesome trio of English coins! Simply amazing.

@baltas, yes very good point about this coin potentially being a Denar rather than a Half Denar. As you probably know, this coin is listed as "Silbermuenze" in Huszar and a "Denar" in Frynas. However, in the preceding text of Frynas, he makes the following point:

Quote:
Hungarian scholars tend to regard these numerous coins of Stephen I as half denars or obols because of their low weight compared with contemporary foreign coins (e.g. German pfennigs of Augsburg/Bavaria had an average weight of about 1.5 g--about twice the weight of). Several known surviving specimen [sic] had a weight between 1.1g and 1.4g. Therefore, it is possible that denars were simply debased over time.

My coin has a mass of 0.8g. For the moment, my opinion is that I have either a debased Denar or a Half Denar. However, I would be interested in any additional light you could shed on this point. Thanks!
