Jbuck, I have missed the 12th century.
I have some coins that can be dated that period.
Is it ok to post them today (in one post?)
I say yes, just make it clear you are taking a quick step back to catch-up. Better if done now since we are just one day in.

Very nice, Petrus! I have always been fascinated by Arabic coins from the golden age of Islam, but honestly the language barrier has always prevented me from getting very far. I never knew that coins from the heart of the Islamic world would have had the image of a sultan--isn't that more or less expressly forbidden in the Quran?

And I love those English pennies! Funny to see the names of kings go abruptly from William and John and Edward to Cnut and Aethelred. Something about the year 1066...

I have some Song dynasty coins, at least one Indian, and maybe a few Byzantines for this century, but I will need to do some quick ID work first!

Here is my 1000-38 Hungarian denar under King Stephen I. He was Grand Prince 997-1000 and King 1000-38. This is one of 4 varieties and the first coinage of the Hungarian Empire. This is also my oldest coin. Huszar 1,Unger 1,Rethy I1.

I really like how you can see the fading influence of the late Roman coins in that Cnut penny, even 600 years later!

Do any members on here own anything from William I?

Yes sorry about that--I've been travelling the past couple weeks and couldn't really post any coins. I'll try to put up a few from the 900s to get us started this week.

Nope, but here is a penny from Aethelred II "The Unready" (or as some historians suggest, The Ill-advised"). It is undated, but was minted between 976 and 1016 in Winchester. The moneyer was Aelfsige. Attribution is SP-1148.

Here are a couple silver dirhams that I have posted previously in another thread:

As a bit of a tease, if anyone out there is sitting on a coin minted between 890 and 899 AD, please consider posting it over there so that we can continnue our countdown from 1600 by decades.

Coin 1 is from Tashkent Uzbekistan and is dated AH 290 (902 AD). Attribution is Album 1443.
