What I WANT to do, and what I'm ABLE to do, are lightyears apart. I used to have my collection spread all through the house, hidden. I used to also have several large safety deposit boxes at the bank. But I've always had my coin table in our spare room where I can actively work on my coins.
Nowadays my collection is smaller....gold coins are all gone, hence, safety deposit boxes are gone, and my Dansco's are in a wood cabinet...some materials like proof and Uncirculated sets, currency holders, coin tubes, etc., are just stored in boxes...but many things are just stored right on my table, which I like and have plenty of room for. I like seeing them literally 'right there' with me while I work on stuff.
I use a binder with 2x2's, albums, folders, coin tubes...everything !
I'm ALWAYS worried about security, but you can only do so much. Obsessive paranoia shouldn't overwhelm your hobby and squash your enjoyment. (Having your entire collection stolen WILL though), but there should be appropriate and common sense measures put in place and just be content and happy with that.
