I don't understand why RCM would take orders for a coin in May that won't be released until September. Seems rather bizarre, way too long to sustain interest after the initial hype considering four months of other new releases are still on the horizon. Not only is there the chance the movie flops as sometimes happens with re-do's, but that's four months for people to become uninterested and cancel because a higher priority comes along. Add to that, buying a golden emblem that's going to be about the diameter of a 25c but looks gigantic to the imagination, I just think for some it will be a huge disappointment when it's finally in hand, considering the price. How many grams of gold, has anyone asked their rep?

Quote: Not only is there the chance the movie flops as sometimes happens with re-do's Again, today's releases are based on the 50th anniversary of Star Trek appearing on TV in 1966. They has nothing to do with the movie. The upcoming movie is a sequel to the 2013 Star Trek Journey into Darkness movie. All different cast members in the new movie. Not a single actor from the 1966 series will be in the new movie. Besides, the new movie will be released in early July. The movie will be long gone from the theatres by the time the gold Star Trek coin come out.

The 2013 Superman gold coin is still selling for at least $2,000. Its success has nothing to do with movie releases. Star Trek gold coin also has nothing to do with movie releases. This is the emblem of our beloved Captain Kirk, a Canadian. I'm sure there are many fans worldwide with enough money who are willing to pay a little premium for 16.20 grams of pure gold fashioned into this unique shape.

I can appreciate there are some avid die-hard Star Trek fans out there but a science fiction theme is purely a commercial money-making endeavour. The timing of the release of the movie intentionally coincides with the 50th anniversary. Therefore it would appear the anniversary of the original series is convenient to launch a Star Trek revival of sorts, including promoting new actors, similar to the way in which SuperMan has become eternal.
I could be wrong but I think Star Trek fans are aging and I'd expect Star Trek Beyond is intended to mainly appeal to a much younger age group. If so, how it's perceived will be interesting.

Actually, the RCM did have a coin release that was a direct tie-in with a movie this year: Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice. Big mistake. The movie had mix reviews and box office was than less expected. I am sure it affected coin sales as most of them are still available. Unlike that series, the Star Trek coins/stamps are entirely focused on the old actors. They brought in Shatner for press conferences, brought in Doohan's son, went to Vulcan, Alberta for the Nimoy stamp. Also some of the episodes of the original tv series like Trouble with Tribbles are on the stamp. There is absolutely no mention of the new movie. If the movie bombs or if it is a big will have no consequence for the RCM/Canada Post because their target audience is different. The new movie is more geared to young people who were not even around when Star Trek begin in 1966. The TOS is more for the baby boomers and those that have seen the re-runs.

Quote: I can appreciate there are some avid die-hard Star Trek fans out there but a science fiction theme is purely a commercial money-making endeavour. This is very correct. I watched overnight couple of episodes of TOS. Well...you probably can guess what I can say about. I can just thank to the actors and the group for creating a series, which has been watched in the end of 60's with "open mouth". But that's all good about it. Even can not be compared with the serious (actors plays, the story, effects) with the next coming Sci Fi as "Star Wars"(1977), "Alien" (1979), "The Thing" (1981), "Blade runner" (1982?) So...these people didn't invent a thing, they aren't real astronauts or all other, who assisted the space dream to be real. Just an actors....people in the circus work harder and get less appreciation. Get the coin to resell, or you really true fan. Otherwise, IMO, nothing to pay in 2016, for the stuff that was popular in 60-'s

Quote: I have such a phenomenal rep. He emails me back after hours as well. This is what he states in his email to me with regards to Master Club Status: "The billing and ship date" are what counts towards that cycle and not when you order the item. So, in other words, the Star Trek Gold coins will be included for next cycle. @New1954 Your rep appears to be wrong. FWIW, I went from not even qualifying for silver to platinum overnight. lol. Not to say that is official but that is what my profile shows today. John. The Queen looks like she is not amused. I also don't understand the reasoning behind a 5 month (or more) delay in shipping except that the original first airing date was September 8, 1966. Perhaps there is a tie-in to that date. Added: There is also a large convention in NYC Sept 2-4.

Couldn't tell my semi- collector friend to get only one coin....2 coins purchased just by phone "because people will pay big money for them"..
I have a thought, that graded gold coin with Star Trek themed label or mr.Shatner signature will command huge premium.
Except the flagship (gold one), do you guys plan to get any silver coin?

You can just phone in to order the gold coin? So much for the rules. What to happened to the "you must be in this tier" blah, blah, etc? What a joke. If this is the case, when the next voyageur coin becomes available maybe I should skip the usual routine of waiting for email from my rep or looking for it on the website. And just phone it in.
