Looking forward to ordering at least three of the $20 for $20 and a couple of the 25 cent coin & stamp sets when they come out. Seen a novelty note on ebay that looks interesting too! Haven't heard from my Mint rep yet, hope it will be soon.

Quote: ordering at least three of the $20 for $20 Really, at least three? What for to multiply these? Looks like, following the article, that CC-Ottawa gave, I will check, how to ship the single one which I'll order, directly to the bank...

If they get bored with it then they can cash in. How can you go wrong with that? Wouldn't that be more fun than just handing them a $20 bill?

According to the recent years experience, I think, that the loaded gift card - the best gift for everyone.
Imagine your friend, non coin collectors, tries to deposit $20 at the bank, when the teller first time see these coins.
Ofcause, Star Trek fan, probably will enjoy keeping it, and knowing that somewhere (not really remember where exactly) he / she has it.

If that's what happens with you, then you should probably buy that nice Lighthouse 20 for 20 collector box that you recommended. That's what I did, and I appreciated the suggestion.

That's what I did, and I appreciated the suggestion. It happened with me on peak of 2013 with increased releases of RCM, and picking up some releases from other mints. The moment I realized it - I immediately listed for sale the coins that have been "somewhere, not remember where". I actually assume, that Star Trek (or other fan) has a shelf with related items proudly displayed, and real RCM $20 silver coin will take it's place. At the bottom line - different people collect different (sometimes weird stuff), since they enjoy it and do not harm others - it's great! Lighthouse black cases - imo one of the best types....

Shame the gold coin is not 14K. The price will make it less accessible to most.

It will most likely have a lower mintage too given its 24k gold content.

We don't know the price of the Star Trek gold coin yet but if we follow past RCM releases for 1/2 oz $200 gold coins, it would go for $1199. If people can afford to buy 14k gold Superman coins, I think a price of $1199 is within reach. If it is around $1500, then it would be a problem for most people. Look at it this way, at $1199, it is the price of two 5 oz coins.

Lower the mintage the better for everyone.

Forgot to add that the gold Star Trek coin is tax exempt (for people living in provinces without PST) since is it is pure gold. So the price of a 14K coin is going to cost you maybe $850-$900 anyways since non pure coins are taxable. If the pure gold Star Trek coin goes for $1200, it would be only a $300 difference.

I expect the price to be about $1,500 because of possible licensing fees, and because of the two current ebay listings asking $1,950 and $2,000. I hope you're right, and the price is only $1,200! However, if that's the case then I think my chances of getting one will be slim.
