I really do not get, while our mint insists on putting low efforts, while wants to get more money...

RCM, people - fans and collectors and casual customers - are awaiting and ready to pay, just mint some nicely designed coins and we will send our money.
Instead of it - pictures from the movie?

Alert:
some money maker item expected today from Perth.
(thanks RFD member for pictures)
But could you explain please, what it represents?

Regarding the release date; C4F has delivery dates June 29th to July 4th, and William Shatner will be at the Montreal Comic Con July 8th.

It only seems logical...that the public release would involve Kirk so I'd expect it to happen on or around July 8th. That would make the big hitter MC release about July 1st.

Incidentally, for those considering these coins, what makes them more desirable than the very similar batch that came out of the Perth Mint last year?

Gold-pressed latinum was a form of currency that was often referred to in episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - especially when the Ferengi were a key part of the episode.

A "slip" of gold-pressed latinum was the lowest value unit of the currency - similar to a one cent coin vs. a dollar.

@Commems:

Thank you a lot. Really appreciate this explain.

Item commemorates "Sci-Fi" money....Too bad it not Canadian and doesn't have symbolic denomination to be a coin-like.

They are not pictures form the movie. The coins and stamps feature actors from the Original Star Trek series which is having its 50th anniversary this year. The TV show first air on NBC in September, 1966.

They are filming a new Star Trek movie but it will have an all new cast. Some of the actors for the 1966 tv show are dead so they can't appear in the new movie if they wanted to. James Doohan(Scotty) and Dr. McCoy are gone and the remaining actors are in their 70's and 80's.

Does anyone know the mintage of the gold star trek coin? I just checked C4F listings and no mention of mintage on any of star trek coins.

Sorry, although being distinguished (original series vs full length movies), from the coin perspective these still pictures taken from the motion picture.

Sorry, I'm changing my guess on the release date.....

Starfleet Gala
May 12, 2016
Canada Aviation and Space Museum
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Shatner is to appear. Some later series guys too. Sorry folks, the gala is sold out. Maybe try Stubhub.

Added: I can't believe that I saw this on the local news last week but didn't make a connection. There is also a Starfleet Academy Experience beginning May 13th and ending in Sept in Ottawa and then moving to Calgary Feb-June 2017.

The first Star Trek Movie came out in 1979, long after the series ended and besides the characters, everything was different from the TV series. Different uniforms, different Enterprise.

The RCM coins even feature episodes from TOS (The Original Series)

-The Trouble with Tribbles
-City on the edge of Tomorrow.

These 2 episodes were among the most popular of the TOS.

I am 100% sure the Star Trek coins will be out this month of May. I agree with CC-Ottawa that the release will be likely next week.

reasons:

-The Star Trek coins are already to be ordered from local post offices. If you go to your local post office you would see it in the May catalog along with the rest of the RCM coins.
-Dealers have advance ordering information. The pattern of new releases is dealers get to order coins that will be release within weeks, not months ahead. Coins4fun has always been correct in predicting new releases.
-Canada Post already have vans that show pictures of the new Star trek stamps, similar to the Superman release.
-The release of the Star Trek coins will be a joint release with the RCM and Canada Post.
Note that the May RCM catalog has no mention of the Star Trek coins while the Canada Post catalog has both the regular May releases and Star Trek coins. That can only mean the RCM is treating the Star Trek coin as a special release, separate from its monthly release.

Bit aside from the release:

for me Star Trek started with the "New Generations" and continued via all aftercoming movies.

Is the "TOS" recommended to watch to be "in theme"? Which episodes recommended?

My gut feeling is that the gold coin will sell very quickly. Of course this would depend upon mintage and cost (when did Star Trek begin - 1964, so say with a mintage of 1964 at a cost circa $1100.

What do you guys think of the colorized Star Trek silver coins?

I think they look awful, very amateurish. The Perth Mint did a much better job with its Star Trek coin.

Plus the mintage of them will be very high. Remember the old adage, buy them only if you like them, these coins will not be very flippable.

The only one worth getting is the gold one but it may be sold out before I have an opportunity to buy one. I am sure that will be a very hot coin.

Series started in 1966. Hence the 50 year anniversary.

In order to be $1100 and pure au, it would be about 3/4 inch long at most. As it is, I believe it will more expensive and possibly an inch or so. It will be pretty impressive. lol

I'm betting MTS/C4F knows the mintage but is simply not publishing it here or on RFD because it is high and that would hurt ebay pre-sales. Or maybe he's just not on the forums this week....

BTW, good news for those of us who participate in the MRFD. We will likely get to see a bit of the Starfleet Experience at the museum on June 4th.
