Number 33.

Only a small piece of the puzzle on this one.

Which obverse?

Can you guess the reverse by the die state of the obverse?

Right northcoin! You've narrowed it down from over 200 possibilities to just 4 with one small piece of the puzzle.

Can anyone narrow it down further before we put up another piece of the puzzle?

A very nice group of reverses for obverse 38, viper! Not an easy group to find. I really like that E39b!!

Here is the reverse for mystery coin #33.

All you have to do with this one is match it to viper's reverses. (E39, E39a,E39b, and E39c)

Right Don, that was quick. Obverse 38 and reverse E39c (Haxby PC59-384)

Viper, can you show us the obverse of your 383 so we can all drool a little over that one? Even okiecoiner should like that variety.

Some people who visit this thread may be wondering "Why would anyone want to have over 200 coins of the same date? The differences between them seem so minute."

I'm pretty sure there are different reasons why we collect 1859's by die pairs, and I'm not sure it's always easy to explain it to people who have never tried it (or even to ourselves, sometimes), but I thought it may be interesting to get some input from the 59ers as to why you collect 1859's by die pair.

What got you started? What keeps you going? Is you goal to get all the Haxby varieties, just obviously repunched ones, neat die cracks, or what?
