Hello all. I am seriously contemplating grading this nice 74. What do you guys think? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

No, because it is a perfectly normal coin with all of its clad layers intact.

Thanks bio. Looks as if it is missing. Why would you disagree? Thanks bud. Still learning

A coin missing a clad layer will be significantly underweight, have noticeable strike weakness, and the copper core will be exposed.

 Should have a weak strike.

@tech418, can you explain why you thought that the clad layer might be missing?

I saw pictures of a partial missing clad and the sharpness was there but the missing was a deep gray in color while the remaining "clad" was brilliant. I did edit the coloring and contrast of the two photos because my phones camera is below par.

This coin is a deep almost charcoal gray. There are a couple tiny brilliant spots on the face and the look to be "peeled"

I see the weak strike. So what happened to this coin for it to turn dark gray?

Do you think it may have been cleaned with some chemical in the past and it might have turned this color?

If you have to pay to get this coin graded and authenticated, you would be spending a bit more than the coin could ever be worth. AND might come back saying layer removed Post Mint.

I am way beyond grading this coin now. Just would like to be educated on it. My curiosity is way up. Never seen anything like this before.

Ok if I understand it right, the obv of your coin is dark grey and the rev is bright and silvery (so not the Kennedy half from three or four posts ago). In that case, it seems to me like normal, preferential exposure to a chemical or even the elements might do that.
