Bought from GC last year as is. Price was $450 but buying them put my invoice over the $1500 mark so I could avoid taxes thereby saving over $100 so technically I got the set for only $350 more on the invoice!

(I live in cali and GC is in cali and cali pm laws say they can't be taxed over $1500 but under is taxable. Same goes with Heritage for me too as they have a satellite office in cali )

I remember this set well, household limit was 5 sets? Everyone was having a rough time ordering, how prices drop over time.

Except that that, I believe, is common Machine Doubling and not the 2011 DDO that is evidenced by thickening of the lettering

Hmmm....here are the markers.

http://varietyvista.com/2011PDDO001...20A%20Photos

The "In God We Trust" in the ebay coin seem to have obvious doubling where the markers are more in the line of thickening...but, who knows

I would send it to ANACS and get it noted since I bet neither NGC or PCGS would attribute it.

Here's the one I have, compare the sun rays, indent area at the letter "L" and the thickness doubling of the rays. Click on individual image for enlarge view.

Well, my bullion issue is not the DDO but check out my burnished. The 1's appear to have split serifs, the 0 is top heavy, the O in god looks larger and the ray below the L is somewhat indented but not as strongly as the known bullion DDO. Whatcha guys think?...

Well....in the normal/doubling examples above the most obvious markers (to me) are the 20 in 2011 and the letters of GOD which all have easily to see thickening. I do not see that on the 2011-W

Well... if this is a true DDO it wouldn't necessarily look the same as the bullion one. I'd say if it is, the bullion DDO is definitely stronger. Are there any anniversary burnished DDO's known? Maybe I should send it to Wexler to get his opinion. If it is a DDO it would be newsworthy no?

Oh yeah, I just stumbled on to this pile of $800 and some change I set on the night stand 4 or 5 years ago too. Pffffft. Chump change!

I understand being a collector of certain types and grades of coins requires deep pockets. But how does one forget about a set or coin of that value?

Sorry for the delayed reply but I've been traveling to visit family and especially grand kids, which leads me to how I managed to "forget" about the purchase of these sets.

About the time the-box-which-shall-not-be-opened arrived, my first grandchild was born. Then another. Then another and yet another due in July (finally, a girl!). I did not intend to appear flippant about the coins but was simply distracted by my wonderful life.

I'd like to think I've got my priorities in order.

BTW, I've enjoyed the course this thread has taken.

LOL I have a somewhat similar story.

I made a list of all my junk silver and some other assorted items and shipped them to my parents house in 2013 before I moved to Spain. Now I only have a vague idea of what I sent because I lost the list in a hard drive crash and I will be moving to Japan for another three years. lol

I would like to think I will look at them when I visit but I doubt I will. It has been FAR to long since I visited the family.

Indeed -- and that's treasure of an entirely different sort. And may you find more or both such treasures in the very near future!
