United States Mint Releases 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary Gold Coin On April 6
2017, April 6
US Mint - The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary Gold Coin (product code 17XA) on April 6 at noon Eastern Time (ET). Struck in conjunction with the Mint's 225th anniversary, this unique coin portrays allegorical Liberty as an African-American woman. Its obverse (heads) design depicts a profile of Liberty wearing a crown of stars, with the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "1792," "2017," and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The reverse (tails) design depicts a bold and powerful eagle in flight, with eyes toward opportunity and a determination to attain it. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1OZ .9999 FINE GOLD," and "100 DOLLARS." Produced at the West Point Mint, this one-ounce, .9999 fine 24-karat gold coin is encapsulated and placed in a custom designed, black wood presentation case. A special 225th anniversary booklet which is the Certificate of Authenticity, accompanies each coin. Pricing will be based on the Mint's pricing schedule for products containing gold. These products are priced according to the range in which they appear on the United States Mint Numismatic Gold, Commemorative Gold, and Platinum Product Pricing Grid. Current pricing information is available at http://catalog.usmint.gov/coins/gold-coins/

Hmmmm...
I have no problem with Lady liberty being represented as an African American woman, but I'm really not liking that cheesy star crown she's wearing. Still, I might just have to pick up one anyway, just to be a completist.

If I'm still employed when this comes out, I'm grabbing one.

Any idea what the sale price will be on these? I'm already seeing ads on ebay for them at $1947-$2061, which seems a bit excessive.

Based on the Mint's pricing tables and the current price of gold, the one-ounce American Liberty high-relief gold coin is expected to be priced at either $1,650 or $1,690 when it goes on sale next week. (The lower if gold stays below $1,250 an ounce, the higher price point if it moves above it but stays below $1,300.)
Maximum mintage is 100,000.

Thanks. I figured it would be priced similar to the regular 1 ounce proof gold coins, but was surprised to see people already trying to sell them raw on ebay for close to $2000. And yes, I saw the mintage limit of 100,000 and also noticed there was no household limit. I wonder whether dealers will be snatching these up in droves or not.

Looks like those who wait for the silver medal version may be looking at four different versions -- as with the 2014 Kennedy sets.
From the picture, I see Proof, Reverse Proof, Uncirculated and Enhanced Uncirculated.
I also see "S" and "W" mint marks.
Looking forward to the possibilities!

Wow!
I wasn't originally a big fan of the gold version, but that RP does look quite impressive. I might have to go for it as long as the price isn't too high.
Thanks for the pic Bobby!

Well, that was easy enough! No lag whatsoever and it took me less than a minute to place my order. I even decided to splurge for expedited shipping so I will hopefully get it in a few days instead of a few weeks.

i don't have a problem with lady liberty being portrayed as an African-American woman either..in fact I think it is kind of an interesting concept seeing as the U.S. was one of the leading countries in ending slavery and sacrificed so much to do so.
but I don't think this coin will sell well..i think that it is over all unattractive. the star crown looks like a kindergarten craft project and the eagle with downward wings both make this a flop for me.
Feel free to call me Will.

Ordered one. No issues with the web site. Mint shipped my Boys Town Proof set quickly so hopefully this one will as well.
