Hello Everyone! I have been checking out this site for a little while and I really like the amount of knowledge that is shared here. I have only been collecting about 1 year and don't know a whole lot. I have this proof ASE with what looks like rim finning. Is this definitely what it is? If so is it worth any premium? Thanks

I am definitely not a finning expert but I believe with finning a portion of the ri extends PAST the normal rim boarder. If what I am seeing with your coin is what you mean it is INSIDE the normal rim boarder

Thanks for your help Foxwoods. I tried to take the best pics I could of it. It looks like the reeds on the edge extend past the top of the rim. Here is another pic taken from the side showing the reeds and the other I took at a very similar angle of the others of the rim on the other side of the obverse. The other side looks completely smooth. Sorry if it's confusing.

Wow, nice close-ups, jbravo!

I'm not an expert on finning either, so will let others chime in on this but to CCF!

Very nice pics.

If anything it would hurt the value.

and very nice pics!

Not sure about the value question. I like my ASE's without any type of variation.

Well, at the very least we know that you are great at photography and know how to take a good coin picture.

Thanks for the compliments on the pics. I have a Celestron 5 MP handheld microscope. Had to kind of freehand it to get a good angle of the rim. I just wonder what happened to this coin. I obviously won't send it back since the Mint sold out of them.

Is your coin the 2017 W-proof or the 2017 S-proof? S-proof is sold out for now, but the 2017 W-proof won't be sold out for a long time.

It's an S-proof. Guess I should have mentioned that in my first post.

Did you notice the rim and cracked it out of the case, or cracked it out then noticed the rim? I haven't closely inspected the rims of mine.

I noticed the rim and then took it out to get a closer look.
