Here are some comments I found

Quote:
This DDO has no mint mark but according to multiple sources,it was minted exclusively in San Francisco.
These coins are also the first silver eagles minted at SanFrancisco.
The coin has a burnished finish and is not the same finish as the regular bullion coin available outside the 25th anniversary set.
The mintage is only 100,000
The 25th anniversary set has 2 unique coins (reverse proof and 2011-S) but it looks as though the no mintmark coin is a third unique coin as it is burnished and it was minted at SanFrancisco.
The ONLY way to get the coin slabbed as being from the 25th anniversary set is to submit the UNOPENED package to NGC or PCGS so the population will be much lower as many sets were opened for the reverse proof and the "S" coins.
This DDO is also the ONLY doubled die non proof silver eagle.

Good description in NN:

...and just because there isn't a mintmarked ASE listed as a DDO doesn't mean you don't have the first one...but...with that said they have been around for 5 years and I would think one would have surfaced in that time...

Your face IS looking a little red there. Did you forget the sunscreen

Could be nothing though so I'm not fretting it either way

It's nothing yet salty. Have to wait for Wexler's in-hand assessment. Just got it out yesterday so I should know within a couple weeks +/- depending on how many coins are in line in front of mine

Sorry to "steal" this thread OP but as per your previous post, you don't seem to mind

Just got it back from Wexler and darn is he fast! Unfortunately he's calling it MD Those faux split serif 1's were deceptive but it was worth a shot

Sorry to hear, but you really had nothing to lose for asking. The knowledge gained has its own value.

As the OP of this thread, thought I would provide an update.
Finally sent the sets to PCGS last month and just now got the verdict (coins will be here Friday and seen by me for the first time). A bit disappointed overall, but the PR70 reverse proof is nice! Will post pics once they arrive.

6 years later there's drool everywhere, CelticKnot! The coloring in the first pic is mostly a reflection of me and camera. However, the lower picture reveals nice toning along the rim that's visible in-hand from 5-9 o'clock. Most visible in pic at 8 o'clock, left of sun.

Question: Is the obv/rev alignment usually this far off? Similar issue with the W DCAM, but the rest of the lot is spot-on.

Wow. That is sharp looking. I've always liked RP's, but that one really pulls it off. Congrats. Great pic.
