Not being up on Mint practices, why do some think there will not be a 30th anniversary set?

Don't know, really. It would definitely be a quick sellout. I guess they're already commemorating the 30th with a special ASE, but I really would like to see them in a nice wooden presentation case.

It could go either way but such a significant set probably would have been in the planning stages for quite a while and thus be on the upcoming products list....and it is basically September with these ASE products still to come in the next 4 months: ...Proof ...Uncirculated (MS) ...Annual Dollar Set ...Limited Edition PF Set (maybe..listed but I would guess not) ...2016 Congrats set also The different strike of the 2016 ASE put everything on hold this year...

BE CAREFUL with slabbed coin that's designated "25th Anniversary" (without the word "Set" in the label), these are 'marketing scheme by TPG!
So the ones that have "set" in the label had to be sent in the OGP of the 25th Anniv set, right? And the ones without "set" in the label but still have 25th Anniversary in the label can essentially be any 2011 ASE?

The edge lettering looks nice. I hope they look that sharp on the actual coin. We all know how iffy it is on the baby dollars.

Looks like an UNC but 9/16 would be the Proof

It does look nice, but how often will it be seen? How well does edge lettering show through in TPG holders and Air-Tite/OGP capsules? We know it won't be visible in (most) albums, and certainly not sitting in the normal OGP boxes without prying the capsules out.

I suspect, or actually just hope, that the OGP for these will be redesigned to make the edge visible.

Since the first one out will be the proof, I expect the edge lettering to be as well executed as it was on the 2009 UHRDE gold coin. Typically, a 3 piece collar is used and since the proof is struck twice the lettering should form nicely. I have a subscription (enrollment) for five coins of the proof and the same for the uncirculated & dollar set(if they even make them). Remember 2009 when no collector ASEs were minted because of very high demand for bullion coins. Bullion sales through August are slightly behind last year, ~29M vs. ~32M) so there should be enough blanks to supply collector coins this year. Last year 47 million bullion ASEs were sold to dealers (less than 29M in all of 2009). Most likely it was just the design, tooling, and testing of the new edge that has delayed the coins.
I did see that NGC is touting a special slab that is designed to better show off the edge lettering. I always take the capsules out of their OGP, just so I don't use up room in the safe deposit boxes for packaging. I keep all of the OGP, I just don't store it under lock & key. I also take hi-res scans and/or photos of all the coins when I get them. Of course, I am retired/disabled now so I have a lot of time on my hands to go through all of that fuss.
jbuck, maybe they will use a capsule like the "Easy Open" thing they used for the braille silver dollar. It gave a great edge view but was harder to open than the standard capsule.

Really looking forward to this release. Will be my first ASE purchase outside of the annual dollar set and first proof coin ever. Would have liked to of come into ASE's 5 years ago when the 25th Anniversary happened but oh well. I noticed from reading the press release that there will be no household limit and mintage will depend on demand so looks like there'll be plenty to go around.
