For those who are sick of so-called "granny bait", the mint has just released the regular, non-commemorative 2016 $1 coin into the wild. I've already seen one example of them here in Brisbane, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of others to follow shortly.

If the definitive 2016 $1 coin is now in circulation, it can be taken that all of the 2015 $1 coins have been released into circulation, unless a mistake (deliberate or unintended) has been made.

There are plenty of rolls of the standard 2016 $1 and $2 coins on ebay at the moment, which must have come from either banks or security companies. I haven't found any of these in circulation yet, but I know someone who found a 2016 MoR $1 today, so unless it came from a baby set, there must be many more out there, waiting to be found.

It is quite a rare event when I find a current years coin in my change where I live, So I was pleasantly surprised to find this recently.
I have the 2016 "Baby Set" coins in my album and in pristine condition But it is always a "Buzz" for me to find a newly minted coin

Good find!

I reckon we're going to be flooded by new coins over the next few months, but at the moment, it's nothing more than a slow trickle.

Has anyone else found any 2016-dated coins in circulation, other than the changeover 50c?

Finding a 2016 10c would be very interesting, because it implies that all the 2015 ones have now been released. I've been saying for a while now that the 2015 5c and 10c coins appear to have very low mintages - around 20 million for the 5c and 8 million for the 10c - so the release of the 2016 ones simply proves that they really did have low mintages, and are worth keeping for the time being.

I myself have found a special 50c. A couple of my mates have found them as well. They aren't coin collectors so they probably just sold them on ebay or something for $2 or so. They are definently out there.

That's the only one I have found. The others don't seem to have been released yet, except in very small quantities.

Currency (Royal Australian Mint) Determination (No. 3) 2016 has just been issued.
https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2016L01347

As I find the ''legalease'' pretty hard to read I need to ask the experts here whether there are circulation commemorative coins mentioned in it. I suspect items 6--10 could be such issues. Not sure though.
The rest of the coins are made from silver and gold. Of course, they are not intended for circulation.

I agree, but after perusing the definitions and descriptions of those 5 coins, I doubt that any of them will circulate, but.......just in case I'm wrong, the most likely to circulate will be Item 6; a 20c Commemorating Dirk Hartog's landing in WA in 1616.

The 4x $1 look like being WWII Commemoratives for:
Japanese Sub in Sydney Harbour
Coral Sea
Kokoda Track
Milne Bay

Brisbane:

50c 50th Anniversary of Decimal Currency (common)
$1 Standard (scarce)
$2 Standard (scarce)
$2 Olympic/Paralympic Issues (all six - scarce, but more common than the $2 Standard)

All other 2016 coins still seem to be MSO here.
