Comparing the details on the sundial alone should be conclusive enough.

lets compare how the letters and date all line up with the org.lets also compare that your looking at a coin that is magnified to 10x its org size.

I think the edges are too smooth on this pewter one to be real. But someone sure went to a lot of trouble to make it look really old. But I didn't pay too much for it, so I got another lesson in numismatics, I think.

I did an overlay given that I tried to match up the top section of the coins as much as possible. The date and "CONTI" are the two biggest factors against the authenticity of the coin.

SecretGlitch, is that comparison with the coin originally in question, the silver 1776 Conti, or my pewter one which I believe probably is a fake, but wanted to know for sure. I know I'm new here, but I'm trying to learn.

The original one in question. Your one, in my opinion, looks real, but I'll check it out with another overlay.

I'm sorry the picture of the coin isn't too good, and it hasn't been in my family for more than a day. I won't be upset if it's not real. It was just a coin gamble I wanted to make. But thanks for the overlay if you do it. I would appreciate that.

Lucky enough for you, it matches up. That's a real one, just in terrible condition.

Wow ! A coin from 1776! I'm so excited. Thanks so very much! I wonder should I have it graded? It would probably grade AG-3 or something, but that's OK with me! Can't expect too much.
