Okay lets say that I have $50 burning a whole in my pocket. What kind of coin should I buy? I am interested in fun coins, interesting coins, coins with stories, and coins for investing. What should I get?

I vote VF grade Prussian Thaler. These are art and coins combined.

I say stick with the Old West. I would look for some CC dimes or quarters (75,76,77) in the lower grades. I can see these coins being thrown on a bar table poker game in 1880!

G'day, with a name like yours, you could pick up a French five francs from the era of the Emperor himself: $50 will get you an entry-level coin. Peter

Ok so I'd have to say 3c silvers they are neat and they are to my knowledge the smallest US coins. They have alot of history and By far some of the weirdest story's My great great great grandfather had several 3c coins that he passed down from generation's and sure the story might have gotten a little twisted but It went like this every paycheck he received was 1.66 cents each and every pay check he would invest in 3c silvers/nickels about 12 of them he stored them in the rim of his hat and his hat got and the hat got blown away by the wind he chased his had 6 blocks to get the hat back he checked to make sure all 88 3c were in his hat after it was safe he walked back to his home and at the moment he went to open the door the wind picked up and he went darting down the street again. After he received his hat he decided to store them in his shoes and once he did that he got home and found out that the coins in his shoe cut up his feet so he decided to store them in an old box and he made sure it was safe and remained there until about 1962 when my gradnfather had to move and took the box and it was passed to my father then passed to me.

That's an interesting story. I would vote for a nice early 50 cent bust from 1839 and before. Although you couldn't get one in remarkable condition, that's what I would do. I think they are really sharp looking.

Hmmm, my Dad was broke and he passed it on to me. I'd get junk silver. Look at it, it's not all junk.

Okaaaay I'd split it up and get 3-4 nice coins with unique histories. I'd go with a 2 cent, 3 cent, and nice common date walker quarter Personally 'd rather have 1000 coins for $1000 instead of 1 coin that's $1000

Shield nickels :) Or how about a Jefferson proof from the 1940's? I bought mine for $30+ NGC PF64, old holder.

I'd get a circulated 1861-O Seated half dollar. Hard to beat it for history: 1/8 of these coins were struck while the mint was still controlled by the U.S. government, 1/2 while the mint was controlled by the State of Louisiana after secession, and the remaining 3/8 while controlled by the Confederate States of America.
