So I'm going through a bag of 1982 Lincoln cents (which I marked as copper) separating them by the different varieties (small date, large date, mint mark) and all of a sudden see a 1982 D Small Date (IN MY BAG MARKED COPPER MIND YOU). I think I went tachycardic for a little bit there! I have some dreams of what I would do with it, sell it, keep it, pay something off, etc, etc, etc (all within the time it took me to turn on my AWS digital scale and place the bundle of joy on there). Come to find out, of course it's zinc! What am I thinking? The odds of finding a 1982 D small date copper Lincoln Cent? Talk about the thrill of the hunt! Whew.

Sorry to ask, but do 1982 D bronze small date coins even exist? I only heard about no mint mark either bronze or copper plated zinc and D with copper plated zinc when it comes to small dates... So I guess you really would have had a unique coin there. :)

Anyway, keep hunting, it's one of the most fun parts of coin collecting, I'd say. :)

Hi Ultra Rant,
There are actually 7 varieties (8 with the legendary 1982 D small date copper). All of the varieties with no mint mark are obviously Philly.

1982 Large Date Copper
1982 Large Date Zinc
1982 Small Date Copper
1982 Small Date Zinc
1982-D Large Date Copper
1982-D Large Date Zinc
1982-D Small Date Zinc

I always weigh my 1982's just to make sure (I am still under a year into the hobby), you never know if a 1982D copper small date got through especially during the transition.
