The die that struck your coin was in its VLDS. That ways the die is showing extreme wear and showing flow lines in the fields. Note how the devices show heavy die wear towards the rim. On the Motto, You can see it on the right side of the devices. On the Mint mark and QUARTER DOLLAR you can see it towards the rim. LIBERTY Show little distortion. But it looks like the die was on it last run of coins. though before retirement. This is how the dies look when they become seniors. Wrinkled and doubled over. (why does that sound familiar) LOL

Thank you John, I already looked through those and there is only 1 listing that has doubling on the devices, it is a proof coin. http://doubleddie.com/186364.htmlSo, I guess I should have just settled with the fact that there are none in the business strike. You never know what can still be discovered though.

Here is a set of images showing the differences between machine damage on devices and Die Deterioration. that might help new ones to see what the differences are.

I guess that is where I am messed up then, I have always associated the extra Fatness of the devices with Die Deterioration. Thanks for straightening me out.

On Die Deterioration, it is usually outside the edge of the device. Take another look at the image on the right. See how on the side toward the rim the wave is forming from die wear. On the image on the left the devices look wider, but it is probably a different year coin. But note the push is from the west side. Then note how some of the devices are reduced from the overall size. IE: Note the 'O' on GOD. You can see where the device was thinned on the SW side. When the devices are enlarged, that is usually a sign of hub doubling. But in this case the devices on the coin on the left were not as thin as the coin on the right. But I appreciate you posting these images. I felt they were a teaching aid to know the differences. (something I'm always looking for on images posted here)
