My husband purchased this recently at a show from a dealer who had it labeled as KM-194. He paid $6. The surfaces in the fields are so strange.. I thought the beads in the crown are showing wear, but Ed thinks it may be the die. I am not well-acquainted with German states coins, so I am at a loss on how to value this. 720,000 seems like a high mintage, but I cannot find very many like this on the internet.

I hope these photos are alright, if you need better ones just ask..

Thanks.

I would have thought VF would have beads and stripes running together in places. At least in the crown, no?

Despite the fact that I think it is genuine, it has a strange textured field, both sides.

It would help if we knew whether such surface is typical for these coins. While the uneven color seems to be encountered rather often, none of the images I managed to find were as good as yours, so I can't say much...

I'd say XF. In Germany dealers would ask around 30 € for this one so I guess your husband made a good deal ;)

The texture in the surface actually is typical for these coins. That is no question.

I think I should go with my original instinct on this one. Thanks for your input, everyone.

Certainly a very nice piece, and very nice photos of the coin. At $6, that is a great buy.

As a side note, German States minors from this period, are in my opinion, underrated. Outside of certain Prussian, Bavarian and a couple of other German states, finding nice high grade pieces is VERY difficult
