Thanks for the tip on addresses. (I just clicked on the images and can still see the addresses, is that correct?)
Bobby, presumably you would charge me that much because that is what it would cost you to send it via the method you use. That is fine and I can then choose to buy or not.
I am referring to the many auctions where the shipping within the US or abroad is via the same method, such as USPS first class mail, but what a seller charges to send it abroad is a lot, lot more. When in fact the actual cost is only 22 cents more, for example.
With regard to the feedback. Yes I agree 98.7% is not great at the moment, but I did look through it, and most of their neg feedback was a while ago and related to a time when they were selling other types of items, with different problems, so I felt ok with it. If I had seen comments about bad packaging I would probably have been more cautious.

Leebreeze, that's horrible shipping. The only way they could've shipped worse is folded between a sheet of sandpaper.  Sure that 98.7% rating isn't the highest, but that would hardly suggest the shipping you experienced on that coin. To me, that shipping amounts to gouging--and obvious contempt for overseas buyers. I hope you leave an appropriate comment; other buyers need to know. Edited by KurtS

That's because the old image is in your computer's cache. If you refresh they should be blocked out.  |

I am ruined. Today the seller returned from vacation and gave me a retalitory negative because I left him one for how my coin was packaged. I am very upset.

If you wanted better shipping you have to ask the seller to ship in a bubble mailer and pay extra on top of what you paid already. You should assume right off the bat anything you buy on ebay is getting shipped the worst possible way because it's about one thing how can the seller make a profit. It's kind of like this you list the auction at $6.00 + $3.50 shipping or he could do it like this $7.54 + $0.96 now this way he makes less money and ebay makes more money it's the same to you. If it was me I would just do $0.01 + $9.49 shipping but sometimes people get confused and complain to ebay when you do that. I wouldn't leave negative feedback I would just chalk it up as a lesson learned I am sure the guy would refund you in full over a few dollars then get a negative. |

Don't get upset you can do mutual feedback withdrawal. You need to work it out with the seller before you leave any kind of negative feedback. You should only leave negative if you buy something and never get anything in return or if their is no other possible way to resolve an issue. What am I supposed to do? Send a self addressed stamped bubble mailer so the seller can't charge me shipping and to assure my coin will be packed well?

Kyle-- I totally disagree that paying $3.50 is akin to "asking for it" in terms of shipping abuse and neglect. As one who also sells coins, I'll say this--how someone runs their business and turns a profit is up to their own "smarts". If they made wise purchases in the first place, they wouldn't have to resort to excising a narrow margin by "padding" shipping costs (but not padding the envelope, LOL) A few people here know how well I ship my coins, and it costs me very little to do so!  What's more--I know this particular situation, and how the seller wasn't exactly available to resolve things. You are not obligated to to hold his hand and "fix" things; he knew the risks when shipping a coin to you like that! Besides, he could've shown a little business leadership and sought to resolve things upon getting rated and not escalating the situation further. Edited by KurtS

You can totally disagree but the reality is that's ebay so I don't see why people leave negative over it. Work it out with the seller or you will be left with negative feedback yourself. What are you going todo? Edited by Kyle

Kyle-- That's not my reality on ebay; most good sellers I know try to prevent problems by shipping things right the first time. Nor does ebay say anywhere a buyer must first contact a seller if they're dissatisfied, that's what the feedback is for--for goodness sake! Leaving a retaliatory negative is hardly good business practice, and doesn't exactly ask for return business. Why inflame things further? The buyer should not bend to the "rules" of questionable seller practices, but rather--buyers respond to their own auction experience against the backdrop of purchasing experiences outside eBay--and rate sellers accordingly. To suggest that ebay runs by its own rules is to put the "cart before the horse". If your business ethics suck, don't blame the buyer for your predicament--that will be a dead end. Edited by KurtS

The seller could just lick a stamp put in on the coin and hope it don't fall off. Reality is ebay is run by yard sale local auction thrift store buyers and thief's. Plain and simple if you leave somebody a negative you will get a negative in return. But hey if you really want your money back sounds to me like he don't have a tracking number tell pay pal he didn't send you anything and you will get all your money back plus a free coin for your troubles LOL. If you want to get revenge on him sign up another buyer account under a fake name bid on all his coins don't pay and leave tons of negative feedback that's all ways fun! Happy ebaying! |

I have e-mailed the seller last night about having our feedback mutually withdrawn if he will send a replacement to me postage paid. Have not received a response yet.

1. $3.50 for shipping is not too much. Gas "ain't" cheap. 2. Yes, it was a horrible way to ship the coin. I have gotten to the point that I ask for a flip and bubble wrap when paying and offer to pay an extra buck if the coin is worth it. Usually they do it and don't even take the dollar. 3. When this happens, send it back or chalk it off to experience and move on. What happens is out of frustration you post here on the form and guess what the responses are: Shoot him......burn his house....hire a hit man......screammmmmm!! and......LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK....THAT WILL SHOW HIM. Yup, mob mentality, and what do you do, leave bad feedback. Then what happens: SURPRISE, SURPRISE....he does too and the world comes to an end. so what do you do, offer to mutually withdraw. Just what is your time worth. Pick your battles and choose who you do business with in the future. Dad is right about most transactions going off without a hitch on ebay. I also know that as sellers Mom and Dad want we the buyers to help clean-up the bay by making sellers be creditable. All well and good, but I do not have time to fix the world. Bad sellers go away if people do not buy from them. There are many sellers I will not buy from simply by studying their feedback. The secret to being more or less successful on ebay is study the seller and the item, ask questions, get better pics and be defensive. Maybe I am just getting old and tired, but I have given up trying to win every battle. Life is just too short. Jim |
