ExoGuy Pillar of the Community United States 4421 Posts	Posted 08/14/2016 07:09 am Here's a low-ball, 1854 "Huge O" quarter that traveled up the ole Mississippi River from New Orleans to St, Louis. It bears the counterstamp J.J. OUTLEY / ARTIST. John J. Outley was a daguerrieian, a.k.a. photographer, located in St Louis from 1852 into the 1890's. His early gallery was located at the corner of Third and Washington Sts. Fewer than ten of Outley's counterstamped coins have thus far been recorded; and, the latest of which is dated 1858. The stamps match those seen on the frames of Outley's pre-Civil War dagerreotype frames as pictured below. Finding counterstamp matches like this makes for a "slam-dunk" attribution.
