1993 Penny,,...both Sides Struck Differently..

HappyGilmore New Member United States 45 Posts	Posted 07/30/2016 9:52 pm Ran accross a 1993 penny that looked funny off the bat... First thing I noticed was the front face was punched a tad askew diagonal right lower direction.... Yet on the reverse side its double punched/struck aswell as you can see from the rim but the reverse image is centered...? How can this be....?...I thought the front face aswell as reverse side were press-formed or struck together at the same time? Can anybody clear up the mystery for me on how this is possible? So on a misaligned die you can have the bottom or top image completely centered and the other side slightly askew?....Is that a machine operator error? Thanks for the help. A couple more more q's?...When both sides are punched offset what type of MAD event would that be if it is indeed a mis-aligned -die problem or if it isn't a MAD ;-What type of event would it be?... So it both were out of alignment, it would be an off center strike. Struck out of the collar and would have no reeds on the rim. Report this Post to the Staff

It could just be a trick of the light but the rev rim appears to be slightly broader at the 7-8 o'clock position than at the 1-2 oclock. Report this Post to the Staff
HappyGilmore New Member United States 45 Posts	Posted 08/02/2016 11:50 am That one may be a slight trick of the light but it has been double struck and I'm no expert....LOL....Under the magnifying glass and my eye the reverse side looks almost 95% centered.. If theres anymore to be said about the 1993 reverse side Id be very interested...If you need more pics let me know.. However in this similar category I do have this 1984 that has Offsets going in opposite directions on the front and the reverse side.. It also has a raised line swishing through the 1 in 1984.Its not a scratch....Its more like a bubbled edge...Im thinking maybe a die crack cause theres a slight raised bubble on the 1 too...... Lincolns chin looks funny..Like hes got two chinlines and other stuff His eyelid looks doubled better in person....He kinda looks a lil Chinese or overly tired.. His ear and hair seem a lil offish There seems to be a small sun coming from his jacket under the date aswell as some sort of detailing on the jacket that seems foreign to me almost like a generals medal The words : IN GOD WE TRUST seem to be printed on a slope. Even though the reverse side is slightly offset it has no obvious doubling that jumps out at you to the naked eye but there are some under magnification..... Theres a funny looking T in STATES.The ES are flattened but pics show opposite of that....The o in of has something going on and theres a raised bump in 3rd bay from the left on the building like on the front running across the 1 in 1984.
