Hello friends;
I inherited these coins. They are very similar to some Sasanian coins, but something is different about them, lack of wear maybe?! The diameter is about 23mm and they seem to be silver. I know for sure that they are old, maybe at least 50 or 60 year old (not very modern copies I mean).
So, what is your expert ideas? Are the genuine or fake?
And if they are genuine, I really appreciate any information about date and mint.
I also attached a genuine coin picture from one of our local museums' website.
Thank you.

I suspect these are all fakes (of Shapur I drachms, I believe). Unlikely that they'd be so similar to one another if authentic.

Bob L brings up a great point about them being too similar to be authentic.

He is also spot on on what they are suppose to be. They are Shapur I drachms. I do not post in the ancient section as much as I should but I have been pining away with Sassanian coins for a while now. Those ear flaps and little tuff of hair tell you who it is suppose to be.

Shapur was the second king of the Sassian empire. His name literally means "Son of the King".

I am not sure if you are a coin collector already but if you are not hopefully this gets you started. I love anything from Iran, Afghanistan or Tajikistan.

They actually seem authentic to me. I am still learning the type, but these coins are usually found in good condition. The Sassanian empire was very wealthy at this time (Philip the Arab paid Shapur 500,000 gold aureii for a peace accord, and Shapur received similar tributes from later emperors, plus his enemies further East) so a lot of coinage was made to fuel the economy. Lots of coins means that more were hoarded.

Not ruling out the possibility that they are fake; these would be worth in the ballpark of $50-150 each, so the incentive is there. However, I do see differences in die wear, so that is a good sign.

I also like and collect Sassanian coins so I look at a lot of them. These pieces are not constant with genuine example of Shapur I that I've seen. That are all from the same dies and appear artificially toned. IMO they are fakes.

Thank you all for your priceless help.
I really appreciate it. And @Harmonica, yes I am a collector and from Iran, but new to old coins.
