And a side trip to the 2001-2011 Silver Medals. I like this set because of the four different surface textures used on both sides, and the eagle is way cool.

Before I forget, here is the setup I used for these latest photos: Canon EOS Rebel T4i (18MP), Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM lens set at 100mm, f/8, ISO-400 and a 31mm auto ectension tube. The macro flash was mounted but not used. The styrofoam blocks prevent hard shadows without cutting too much light.

More excellent photos, clair. And nice rig!

I never really was interested in the 9/11 commemoratives, but your photos have made me think again.

They seem a little contrived but just as coins (whoops, medals, they do medal flip) I like them. The work that went into giving them four different surface textures (5 if you count mirror) makes them stand out from most other mint products.

The design itself was a little too non-classical for me at the time but I've since changed my tune. I understand what's going on in it better these days. I suppose. I was absolutely all for 9/11 commemoratives but at the time of release this design didn't trip my trigger.

Love your close-ups of the surface treatments, clair.

I do think that many of the commemorative proofs in the past couple years have the 5-finish treatment. Pretty cool if you ask me.
