The 2017 Special Edition Set is presently sitting at 84% Sold. RCM must be pretty pleased to have one of next years sets almost sold out already, probably scratching their heads trying to figure out how to scavenge the pockets of this group of 20,000 buyers on a more frequent basis. It's also interesting to notice the 2016 Proof Set is rated 5-star but is still not nearing a Sell Out. Yet the 2017 Set is only rated 2-star but buyers are buying, assumably because of the significance even though many may not like the design.

What I find most interesting about many of the critical comments on the RCM web site is that it is clear that the reviewers do not understand how the coin designs were developed. They blame the RCM for the designs even though they are the result of a national contest among Canada's citizens. Mis-informed online rants have become far too common these days. I find it best to simply ignore such rants/opinions and form my own. I don't need any one else to tell me whether I do or do not like something!

@ Commems I agree and I have to say that I find it somewhat gratifying to observe there still appears to be a sizeable segment of traditional NCLT collectors, well beyond the low mintage or face value offers that appear to have become the sole appeal of late.

@wildflowerAB: I am definitely what one would describe as a "traditional" NCLT coin collector. As many folks here know (and are likely tired of me saying), I focus my Canadian NCLT purchases on Canada's 36mm commemorative silver dollars and only occasionally stray from this focus for other commemorative pieces that celebrate important aspects of Canada's history. The fact that the 36mm commemorative dollar series ties directly back to Canada's circulating silver dollars appeals to me and so seems a very natural extension to my circulating SD collection. I do not collect any of the RCM's recent pop culture themed coins or its various "bedazzled" coins - they are just not a good match to my collecting interests. But to each his/her own - there's plenty of room in the hobby for collectors of all types! Long live the traditionalists!

Surprisingly, just got a tracking notice that CC&C is already shipping this set. Those who ordered directly from RCM, the website still indicates shipping expected at Feb/17. RCM fills dealer orders but sits on customer orders for two months? Doesn't make any sense. Blame the glitch I guess.

Saw this set on The Coin Show tonight. That proof dollar looks outstanding. I was a little disappointed with the designs when I saw them but they've grown on me. That Proof Dollar though is a must have. Love it!

@wildflowerAB Are you sure you got the tracking number or an order confirmation? Bromberg stated that it would be out in February. I am so confused. The Shopping Channel states delivery for February 24, 2017.

@wildflower You are right. My rep at RCM said all those orders before Nov 15 will be shipped in December. You are right CC&C does have it in stock as well as Colonial Acres. The shopping channel does show delivery as Feb 24. Another mess by RCM. Unbelievable!!!

Quote: ... Simply said, kids will care less about these coins. Just too many other distractions.
The other important thing to note is the variation from the norm. There is too much of it already. The Mint comes out with several different loonies, twonies, and quarters every year.
Just lookin at the coins on my desk, I have a lucky loonie Battle of the Atlantic $2, a wait for daddy coin, a poppy quarter, a Secord quarter, a Brock quarter, a and lots of Olympic quarters. Sometimes I get more special issue coins than regular coins in my change.
Back in the 1967, it was much different since most of the coins except for the dollar were the same every year for decades and suddenly there were different designs. I wanted to quote this post, because I found it to be quite possibly the most relevant post in this thread. IMHO the mint has been to pre-occupied with multiple versions of circulation coins in post-1992 world; 1967 & 1992 were popular because they WERE different... I lost genuine interest in saving the 'different' coins in early '00.

unruhjooy - just think of the money you saved not buying that mint gift ware and at least you can sleep at night. For those who bought it now worth %50 issue price and when they sleep are having coin mares not night mares!!

If someone can't sleep at night over spending $229, their finances are obviously in such dire straits they shouldn't be wasting money on hobbies.
