I really like it, artfully designed, looks good added to a SD collection.

Quote: If someone can't sleep at night over spending $229, their finances are obviously in such dire straits they shouldn't be wasting money on hobbies. Well said Wildflower! Looks like there may not be a special RCNA set as they're already awaiting stock unless they've already reserved 200 for that purpose. Despite the popularity, there should be no issues with picking one up later in the year from a coin shop or dealer given all of the other more affordable options for commemorative coins yet to be released. The premium is still 50+ dollars higher than it should be in my opinion. Going to work from the bottom up in 2017! Circulation, medals, uncirculated sets and bullion should do me just fine!

@WildflowerAB: I'm glad to see that the proof sets are beginning to ship and that you are happy with yours. Thanks for sharing an image of the SD.
I've been told that my order (placed back in September) will be shipped by the end of the month. Time will tell, but I am hopeful!

I'm curious what the traditional silver Proof Set will look like. @ Proof Nut. Yes the price will possibly drop. Only within the last year have I filled the missing holes in my SD collection. Before that the most recent held no urgency. But now, having them orderly, arranged and labelled in coin trays, I'm anxious to add the new ones as soon as they're released. Yet it was such great fun to patiently watch and wait for the best price. @ Commems I think you'll like this set. No paint! As for the designs on the circulation coins, without knowing in advance what the images are supposed to portray, nope I wouldn't have guessed correctly.

Received a "Shipped" email notice from the RCM. FedEx tracking indicates it will arrive by the end of the week. The RCM was true to its word re: shipping date for my set.

I got my set today, and I think it is gorgeous:) Until I read some of the online comments on forums like this, I didn't realize the designs are apparently 'controversial' (re: unpopular)? (I like them all. My favorite is the be nickel (love the new beaver) and the silver dollar (its simplicity and grandeur is quietly brilliant)). Thanks.

Actually I made some comments about cancelling my order when I finally got to see the designs; however, I am glad that I did not do that. I, too, really like this set.
The coins look amazing in hand! I wish I could take back all my horrible comments:))))

I remember, majority agreed that designs aren't bad, but they could be better by keeping them "all-in-line". The Anniversary Canadian currency deserves art-work of Canadian master and not the "circus" with chosen designs.
Still not bad. I like the Beaver and Loonie, Toonie as well.
Set is overpriced, I waiting for base metal (proof or specimen)
Enjoy your sets, guys.

My set arrived on Wednesday, but unfortunately has to be returned. The SD had a pair of "divots" within the left section of the maple leaf on the flag -- they are very noticeable even to the unaided eye. All of the other coins appear to be without issue.
I wonder how long it will be before I get a replacement set considering the last projected ship date for the sets was March 10th!

@commems That's really disappointing, hope you don't have to wait too long,
I just happened to notice this Silver Proof Set is now showing sold out. Whether people like the circulation designs or not, a 20,000 mintage proof set sold out from the mint so quickly holds a distinction not seen in recent years. The fact there's still a few traditional collectors kicking about is somewhat nice to know.

While the set is sold out at the RCM, there is plenty of stock at all the dealers. Gatewest Coins have at least 1000 in their inventory. So the mint did not sell out all 20,000 sets. They sold out their portion of the 20,000 mintage. Who knows how much stock the RCM had. They could have only 5000-10,000 for all we know, leaving 10,000 somewhere else in the marketplace. So don't put too much emphasis on sold out at the RCM, it is quite meaningless. As for the set itself, the reviews on the RCM are overwhelming negative. 2 out of 5 five stars is the lowest I've seen for a coin product.

Sales to dealers count just as much as direct sales to collectors. If the RCM no longer has inventory of the product as a result of dealer and direct sales, they are correct to list the set as "Sold Out" from their perspective. True, the sets may not be sold out in the secondary market, but the status that the RCM lists is never for the market as a whole, it is only from their perspective.

Great discussion! A couple of factors that likely played a big part in the sellout is the unprecedented early release before the designs were even announced, lack of other options and the huge difference in the appearance and design of the proof coins. They are way nicer without the distracting security features on the $1 and $2 coin. Probably the smartest move they could have made this early on given the number of premium silver sets sold since 2013. Speculators may be hanging on to them in hopes of seeing a profit on their investment which will be first for this type of set. Dealers I spoke to said they had trouble keeping them in stock, so it should be interesting to see what the RCM comes up with for a secondary $100 proof set and specimen coinage.

How crazy. I just received an email from RCM to "Tell us what you think" for my ratings and reviews of this set. Only thing is, I don't have it. When I checked my order status, it still shows "Processing" What a messed up system.

I received the same email as you rjlavoie. Like you, mine still shows processing and no set yet. Agree that there is some serious revamping required for even acceptable customer service levels to be achieved at RCM.
