CCC is still offering the set at issue, the original 1967 gold set is only worth bullion value basically

I'm positively saying no to this series. But I do like the design very much. Even at issue price, it's expensive. I don't collect anything specific but I do like completing sets when possible. So this would be all or none. I'm going with none. $3000+ sure would buy a whole lot if you walked into any coin shop and bought a bunch of yesterday's news coins.

Quote: I'd be extremely curious to know, but of course never will, of those 2,150, how many have both types or is the original 1967 version just too old and boring? I decided to pass on the NCLT version (as said earlier - saving money to get something more close to 150-Anniversary, rather then 50 Anniversary) So, I have the original and here is the difference: **the original - is circulation coin, I have it in the Mint set, and that's all. **The 5 Oz coin - finalized NCLT product, which includes representation (graphic box etc) and by bigger size showcasing itself much better. Does 5 oz SD coin worth spending CAD 550? Each one decides for him/herself. None of them (original and NCLT) better than another, just different mint product.

Paulx411, Yes there is a 5 oz silver coin with the same design as each coin in the '67 series minus the $20 gold coin that was offered back in '67. Why they chose to not include it, is anyone's guess. Perhaps because it wasn't a design in circulation like the rest. It doesn't appear on the RCM website in the new release section for some reason though. Possibly because it hasn't been released to the general public yet. Strange, because official RCM dealers have it listed.

The entire set is nice, but I am only interested in getting the dollar and penny for my personal collection.

To those ordering off of CP's website....
It's likely they wont have enough to fulfill orders. They wont know their inventory until the 19th supposedly but will accept orders until then. "Supposedly"
Sorta scammy lol

When people can't get their order filled, it drives the prices up not to mention angers a lot of people.

The original set with the gold coin is Specimen finish, very similar to Proof (and not at all like what we refer to SP finish today.). The first Cdn proof sets didn't come along until 1981. What's most interesting about the 1967 set is it was the first "classy" boxed set ever to be marketed directly to the general public. Prior to that the main offerings were Uncirculated Sets (PL) packaged in pliofilm inside paper envelopes. Amazing, the vast varieties of sets and cases only 50 years later.....

Sorry Wildflower, for misunderstanding
I was referring to PL set.
If I would choose between original boxed set (with 20 Gold coin) and 5oz set - my choice is original. But again - I believe, no way to find the old set in mint condition now.
Correct me if I wrong - the coins in these sets are without the capsules?

That's right, the coins in the red and black cases were not. There's also other sets, without the gold coin, quite common, without capsules in velvet cases given by banks to their customers. The cases caused incredible toning over time, adding another element of interest beyond design. NCLT collectors seek out 'where' they can buy and who has what in stock, with circulation coin often the bar is raised by patiently searching for what is unique. However the basic, common six-coin Uncirculated Sets still sealed in its original pliofilm, also referred to as Proof-Like sets, is the best deal out there as it sells for not much more than bullion. Even 50 years later, the pliofilm has done an excellent job of preservation. Imagine a young fellow with slicked down hair in his '67 Camaro picking up a '67 set for his sweetheart, one of these songs playing on the radio as he pulls up to the curb in front of the post office, leaving a trail of swirling dust: Just my opinion, the popularity of the 1967 series is a large part due to the simplicity of Alex Colville's designs and the way in which it has come to immortalize the '60s era when taking a nostalgic look back in time.

I ordered my 2017 big goose dollar as a single through my RCM rep and they emailed me this morning saying they oversold. Since I took advantage of the three free coin offer my rep said I can keep the coins for free. I am on a waiting list now for a goose dollar at the RCM. However, I just ordered another single through Canada Post and my order went through so hopefully they will fulfill it.

This is getting stranger and stranger everyday. Now we will wait and see if the post office has over sold too. Wow, what a disorganized main of events with the the first coin in the BIG coin set.

No wonder the RCM sold so quickly, they only had probably 10-20 coins.
