Oh, I love the Red Book. Don't get me wrong, I think it is great. I was just stating that it just wouldn't quite give a person the complete knowledge to tell a circulated 1975 dime from a circulated proof dime with no mint mark.

Please keep coming back to CCF for questions like this. My apologies if I came across too gruff!

I literally wore out my first Red Book (decades ago).

It does if you ignore the prices and actually read it. The problem is most everyone does just the opposite. They look at the prices and don't read it so they don't understand what the prices are trying to tell them.
