Hi team,

Found this ancient coin in south of Spain a few weeks ago.
After searching on the internet information about it, I wasnt able to identify it properly (age, origin). Just know its gold beacuse a jeweler told me.
Could you please help me?

thank you in advance.

Not my collecting area, but for comparison here are some images of bronze issues (folles) of Constantine VII. I am unaware of a genuine gold issue with matching devices, but Echizento may be along - he's the go-to guy here for Byzantine.

There are no such coins in gold for this type of Constantine VII. This type was only struck in bronze and is a Follis Sear #1759. Did you find this in the ground and was it in and area were a lot of tourist visit?

Thank you Echizento.
So, you mean this is a fake? What does a Follis Sear #1759 means?
it was found inside a olive-tree strain, in the middle of an olive grove.

Itīs not unusual to find ancient coins that were gold or silver plated in the XVIII or XIX centuries...

A follis is a type of denomination, the Sear #1759 is a reference number to coin based on David Sears Book Byzantine Coins and their Values. Interesting where you found it. I know olive trees live a long time, but this one would have to be over 1100 years old. The coin in and of itself looks real, but for some reason someone plated it, maybe to keep it as a good luck piece.

I know that in ancient times, olive trees strains were used to store coins, because they usually have space enough inside them and the small plants on their base were perfect for hiding treasures.
But if the original coin design is aged where no-golden coins were used, seems to be not as real as it was supposed to be.
