The bank knows their customers as in your case it's obvious this is part of your hobby, but if some one new started to deposit large sums of almost new coinage, all kinds of red flags occur. A few years ago a outfit from either Eastern Europe or China was cranking out really good TTC tokens and they went to a redesign and now the long awaited Presto system

I think that there's a difference, even in Chinese laws, about counterfeiting collectibles and circulating currency.
One can almost justify it in saying "if these people are so wealthy that they can afford to throw away hundreds of dollars on a quarter while people stave here, screw 'em" where the other could conceivable cause a major international incident that could disrupt trade/commerce.

"To err is human..."
I would hope that there is silver lining to this thread. This is an eye-opener for all of us. Those die gouges on those 25c coins should prove to be a decent marker for sharp eyes. The full serif on the N of REGINA on that 1891 SDLL large cent is another marker to watch for.
We have to be diligent to pay attention to the coins themselves (not just the holders). Online communities like this are proving themselves invaluable as this hobby moves forward...
One would assume (optimistically) that both ICCS and CCCS are paying attention to threads like this, and applying that new knowledge forward so that similar future errors are not made... If not, as "authorities" in the hobby providing opinions on our coins, they should be!!

I've been following this thread closely since it started. I'm curious as to why the title has changed to it's present form. It doesn't really describe the complexity and gravity of this situation.

AgH...I started this thread in the "grading" forum with the header that you now see (or very close to it). When the thread was moved to this forum, the header was changed by the moderators. For numerous reasons, I requested that the header be put back to it's original state.

so Coinhunter.. I don't think this has been asked yet, did you not notice the mule front and back before you submitted..i would assume no..as you probably figured nice coin to be graded and double up.. did you only notice after it came back..or only when someone pointed it out.. so you were totally fooled as well?

Silverwolf if you read through the thread I talk about it. I didn't notice it when I bought it, I didn't notice it when I received it and I didn't notice it when it was listed. It was online for a week before anyone noticed it. And of note the first few people to comment on this thread also didn't notice. Sometimes the most obvious doesn't get seen...

I am astounded by the acceptance of the ICCS mistake. This has gone on for years. The flipped core twoonie comes to mind in an ICCS holder. What a joke! The markers will be published as always for this series of fakes. Again I will not get into obverse or reverse discrepancies but will maintain the system of actual die markers from the counterfeits which will enable a neophyte collector the ability to compare EXISTING marks to a coin in hand. Mike, forgive me for re-asking the question but do you feed the most current info to ICCS?

Mike, you're a king! Thank you!
I agree with you on ICCS. Totally unacceptable. I think they should at the very least come on here and make a statement to give us some sort of faith in their service

ICCS brushed off my endeavors and advised me that they did not need my help.

Feel free to call me Will.

That's really disappointing to hear Mike...I think having more information at hand makes the system better...
