Perhaps for 2017, we could have two Secret Santa groups: 1) rggoodie's Patient & Pliant Program; and 2) trout1005's Punctilious & Precise Program. Happy campers all around.

I appreciate the flexibility on date received; This year I had a heck of a time trying to pick something for my SS - even though I had a heck of a time picking something I did find something without too much delay, I was ultimately at the mercy of the ebay seller to mail my gift in a punctual manner... I could see how matters would be made much worse if some sort of family crisis ect hampered getting a gift out. I look forward to next years SS exchange - One thing I learned this year was to not stress on picking the gift too much; If my SS's don't have a "want list" or don't have threads about what they're looking for, I will just pick a couple things I like, and probably throw some sweets in there to round it out - like what my SS did for me last year. :)

I had a family crisis in 2015.
My recipient in 2016 didn't have an entry in What Our Members Collect, so I sent something from my duplicates.
However, I doubt that buying something would be my first choice because it's impossible to guess what they haven't got unless they have an up-to-date wants list.

Remember, there are members from the entire world. Tracking might end at the border the package was sent from.
Coupled with some members may not check in every day/week/month as well.

I like to Widen collectors horizons by sending them something that they Don't have. This way they get something Nice and they also get to research some new aspect of numismatics at the same time, I would call that a "Win Win" situation Nothing to do with SS but a while back Sel gave Me a circulated 1845 Maundy 4d coin. I had never seen a Maundy coin before and the design and the small size of it had me intrigued, So I did some research on Maundy coinage. I have since added quite a few different Maundy sets to my collections because they are very attractive and low mintage coins But without that initial coin that came from the generosity of a Good Mate I would Never have bothered to look into these types of coins. It only takes a single acorn to grow a magnificent Oak tree

I usually try to give something from their wish/want list, but I add extras that are different.

it would be great if a prerequisite of being involved in the exchange was some sort of a wish/want list.

I've got good news, and I've got bad news.
The good news is that I received a thoughtful SS gift when I checked my box today. (Thanks to my Secret Santa and RGoodie aka Richard for organizing.)
The bad news is that it included a sad letter about a first attempt winding-up in limbo after being sent to my flexdelivery address. Shame on CP for selling flexdelivery as a value-added service when this now marks at least 2 shipments they've screwed-up (at least they had the courtesy to return the other package they never notified me about). :(
I should add, I'm not keen on mandatory wish-lists; I've got some coins now that I almost certainly would otherwise never had obtained, and thus I also have research to do I wouldn't otherwise have done... win/win in my book :) Sorry for the lack of pics, but the sun hasn't been out for a week or more here, and the lighting in my cave is not great... all the pics are coming out blurry.

mandatory, no; but a list for some of the less creative of us, would be kinda nice ;)
