First off, I'm no expert, but I have seen many upon many(maybe thousands) of these dimes that have the die damage(grooves?) or whatever it is that was going on , on all these dimes. I finally managed this year to end up getting a roll of dimes and finding one that is in very good shape without the die error on it. These dimes are listed as being worth 27 dollars and change for an MS65 example. Does anyone think it is worth having one of these in ms65 without error. My thought would be that with all the errors on these volunteer dimes, it would be worth holding onto one that is in ms65 without errors, because sometimes I think into the future about what something will bring due to rarity or scarcity. I don't just think about the present all the time, because some things are a long term investment! I know that there were 224,714,000 of these dimes made, but I'm assuming the mint knew about the error with dies, etc and didn't fix it? because like I stated, most are erroneous. I also wondered if anyone has ever bothered to put a set together with the progression of the error.I know what most of you are thinking....I'm way too wrapped up(no pun intended lol) in these 2001 volunteer dimes. Information or opinions? please and thank you!

There was a previous post about these. If I am not mistaken it is Die Deterioration due to overuse of the dies. Its neat and I believe the term is die breaks or die cracks. I do not know the value etc but it is a neat little thing

It is Die Deterioration like Apitrix said. Very, very common for the volunteer dime. I found more with those marks than ones with clean fields

MS65-66? I'd say a keeper . Not even necessary
to certifiy . Just protect it correctly . show it off once
once in awhile.
Then whatever years from now try selling it.(a long time may be required , patience) .
Your coin, is it Proof ?

I have plenty of these as well. They are all found in circulation, and as others have observed, I found more with die cracks/grooves than ones without.

On ebay, one in poor condition was selling for $6.00, which I found quite surprising.

Is it even worth that much?
