Quote: I heard, the actual mintage is "by demand" with max of 20.000 sets... I don't understand how this is different from the normal practice for every coin or set. The RCM establishes a maximum mintage for each coin/set they release and the final net mintage is determined "by demand" for it in terms of total sales.

Simply awful. The five cent piece looks like beaver roadkill, an anorexic leaf on the dime, 25 cent piece drawn by a six year old with no proportional ability, and the dollar is way too busy. The two is ok but poorly drawn and the 50 cent piece is just sterile. The 67 series was vastly superior. It's a shame because I was looking forward to these. I dread the mess the new 2017 $20 bill might be, if these coins are any indication.

Quote: I don't understand how this is different from the normal practice for every coin or set. My understanding is: If X amount of people pre-ordered it, the set will be minted in the mintage of X+500 ('500' as example), and the sales will be closed. Doesn't metter if X+500 will be much less than 20K. Traditionally, set will be listed for sale for the long period, and as people ordering sets, it has been minted by batches, till max of 20K.

Quote: I wonder how many permutations we will see with the circulation coins. Will we have gold plated, 5 oz, coloured versions. etc. For sure they will abuse it :) I suspect, that will also use a "mixed" design, while obverse has 2017 design, and reverse with traditional design (with QUE II at at the top or bottom) The question now is: Should we load the rolls boxes of rolls of new circulation coins ?

Ouch; I'm sure back in 1967, someone was saying the same about the centennial set and in time love will be written about these coins.

Sincerely doubt it. The 67 series fitted into the current series quite nicely and were classy. Thee are just awful.

I remember when I was at boot camp in the 70s, we had a redneck hard *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. *** who went on about the stupidity of Canada having a maple leaf on the flag. His point was a maple leaf is what he wiped his but with when he was in the bush. Many Canadians were against our current flag.
Time heals all wounds, everything is the past was better, etc, etc.......
I like the set and kids will too.

Will agree with Onecad The designs are good in overall, some plain, not realy fit all together, but they different from the circulation coins that we have, and for these we will love them in the future. Quote: His point was a maple leaf is what he wiped his but with when he was in the bush Stupid reason. The maple leaf exact that moment helped him to survive, so it deserves to be on the flag.

The 50-cent shows the official "CANADA 150" Lego, which was selected in a separate contest. If you look closely, all the other coins bear this logo too. Here are more information: http://canada.pch.gc.ca/eng/1469537603125

@Silveroid: There is no mention of any "mint to demand" limitation for the 2017 Fine Silver Proof Set on the RCM's web site or in its promotional material. It doesn't seem likely that such a limitation would be kept a secret. Are you maybe confusing this set with CC-Ottawa's comment a few months back about a 2017 SD that might be minted to demand with a limited ordering window?

Like the new designs for the 150th or not, anything new for all circulation coins is better than the traditional designs. People might not notice the $2, $1, and 25 cent coins due to the dozens of designs already out, but the nickle and dime have only had a few, and will hopefully be noticed. The RCM has to do something to spark an interest in new collectors and this was a good attempt. It's funny that even in '67, they called off this same idea of voting for the special design because of the worry of lame designs. I wish I had submitted a design. I didn't, so can't really complain. They will take getting used to. That would be cool though, to have your art exchanging hands countless times everyday, and always be worth something even if it's 34 of your art pieces to get a medium double double at Tim Horton's.

If I recall correctly, CC-Ottawa mentioned a silver dollar. The 2017 Special Edition Silver Proof Set, $229.95, mintage 20,000 is the same pricing and same mintage as the 2016 and 2015 set. 2017 Special Edition Pure Silver Proof Set - CANADA 150: Our Home and Native Land http://www.mint.ca/store/coins/2017....WBqPnnTOehAHowever I wonder what the regular Silver Proof Set will contain because I can't see any point for it, other than a different $229.95 1oz silver dollar.
