@soulbrother

I so agree with your post. If RCM had to mint enough to go around, no one would want them. There are many MC coins minted and they never sell out:

The scalloped goose coin
The scalloped Orca
Also, correct me here but the blue ice coin.

Also, they are now offering the low certificate numbers to MC on coins like the 3D whale and the butterfly coin from 1-1500.

None of the above sold out when RCM tried to please everyone. No one wanted them unless they were free.

Dealers had to pick up these specialty made coins for MC because the RCM could not sell them all.

And....no matter what you say, dealers will get some to give to their best clients. Period.

Dealers are clients too. Never forget that.

I'm betting there will be a lot fewer Platinum Plus and Prestige members next year since they removed the face value coins from the program. This should help distribute the coins better through the tiers next year.

It's funny but a lot of people would like there to be more coins so all levels of MC can get them but then the coin(s) wouldn't be so sought after with higher mintages. Can't keep everyone happy I guess.

Actually, I think there will be more people in the top tiers, especially Platinum Plus ($5000) because of the big ticket items like the 1967 big coins series, the penny set, the sculpture coins, and the many soon to come 150th anniversary products. Just buying the big coin series at $3360 + the penny set at $710 will push it over $4000.

The face coins are NOT removed from the MC program. My rep said they still qualify to be added to your MC totals. I verified it by buying some x for x coins and they do show in my MC profile.

You are right about the higher mintages. The RCM could have satisfied everyone by making the mintage 6000 like the MC exclusive goose and orca. But then everyone one will complain that is too much mintage and it devalue them, etc, etc.

@moneypenney

I agree with you. I believe they will have more platinum plus and platinum prestige this coming year than ever before and for all the reasons you have listed.

I am almost at platinum prestige again for this new cycle and we are only in October.

This above correct.

Looks like, the Mint went over possible phases:
**minting few coins with large mintages in the pre-2000-x,
**limited mintages for some coins till the 2013-2014
**huge variety of coins with low mintage recent years

And every time not easy to satisfy the buyer.
Many coins - no one want them, very limited edition - not enough for all.
People shifted the interest to "rarity" which is not realy relevant for not circulated coinage.

I would prefer the model, when everyone will be able to buy the coin any day (let's say for specific period), but the coins variety will not be overwhelming.

Check what do we have now:
every 2 weeks some nice and popular coin or two being discussed (each time from the big release). And what happens after images posted? Nothing...coins collected dust. Large coins collected more dust. In the best case, someone gets the damaged / error coin, so discussion continues till the case closed.

Gold Delta - remember these? Oh...it crashed
Big Goose Dollar? Received and stocked
2017 Penny Set? Cancelled or will be received in Nov or Dec, but who cares, since we have now Library Silver Dollar
And what was prior Delta? Hmmm...who cares..

Yes, the most recent phase recently moving toward high value/low mintage releases each month, is just not sustainable. There comes a time when every NCLT collector takes a good look at what they've spent in relation to their stack of boxes and clamshells and goes

@ MoneyPenny that's a very good point about the MC levels and the new releases. I've already spent way more than this time last year as well.
Interesting about the Face Value coins. I thought they were removed from the program.

Soooooo with 150th Anniversary of Canada + all these high value items recently + Face Value coins being in the program still, there will be plenty more higher level MC next year.

I think this renewed Silver Dollar series may continue to be one of the few releases that maintain and/or appreciate in value for some time into the future if they don't kill it with higher mintages.

My post was bit extreme

We do care of our coins, but when it too much (as it now), we less appreciate each and every item.

Just because they released high priced items doesn't mean there will be more platinum plus members.
I for one, simply cannot afford to buy them regardless how nice they are.

Seriously, some posters could not care less about spending a dime on this coin;; yet they are posting the most negative things about the RCM. Sheesh. Whoever said life was fair? It never will be. Posters who demand this coin and never buy anything else from RCM, should not be balking.

Yeah RCMs MC levels, can't help but be reminded of George Orwell's Animal Farm "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." LOL!

Anyone willing to spend enough money can have it. Let's leave emotion out of it. Vanity nor envy, let alone competitiveness was the basis of my comment --- It's about RCM's commitment to fairness within the terms of their MC Program.

Fairness? Why did some members get the mc wooden box while others were told they would get a redemption code, (which was never even issued in the end)? They should scrap the current MC program and start one that actually makes sense.
