Nice set. Makes me want to get mine into a book and figure out what I still need to get. Thanks for sharing.

You did not let the perfect become an enemy of the good. I will probably get most of mine from local coin shop since he has better lower condition coins than I see online

Terry8835 You seem to be having the same experiences as I am,
as far as finding and picking up Morgan's.

Many of the harder coins get very expensive. My comfort
level is about $150 on the high end, most of my coin
purchases are less than $100.

For this set, so far, there is only one coin I spent over
$500 for. Only 4 that I have spent over $200.

The over $500 was for the 1885 CC. When that coin walked in the
door, I happened to have $500 in my pocket from a Casino
win the weekend before. That was enough to hold the coin,
for me to come up with the rest.

I really am a middle class have to watch my money type of guy.
There are only 3 coins in my collection that I have spent
over $1000, those three times were similar to me buying the
1885 CC GSA.

To sum it up, some of my coins are not as pretty as some of the
others.
They are coins I feel I can afford. I am happy to have them
to fill a empty hole. There are some coins in this set that
I will be able to upgrade, because the upgrades will fit into
my comfort level.

Thank you all for your wonderful replies.

Well done and I would probably want to save for the 1893 S first but with the coins that come into your shops I am sure if I tried that I would get sidetracked by the second day.

Debra .. That is exactly what happens to be .. I get sidetracked
nearly everyday.

When a new collection comes into the LCS .. how can a collector
not want to get some of them.

That is why I have so many albums. I can buy about any
series coming in and have a place to put them.
Rest in Peace

I wish you luck in filling your date set. That really is a fun set, and with
time most can complete it ... even if it takes years.

Beachnut if your thinking about doing a Morgan set.. I say .. go for it.

Many will start with the date set. I really like my date set.

Just remember coin collecting is not a race, take your time find coins
you like ... those empty holes will start to get filled.

It took me over 20 years to fill my type set. And I will be updating for
many years to come.

Thanks mocking.
I hope to motivate other collector, like some of the experts here on CCF
have motivated me.

Many of us may not be able to purchase a lot of high end coins.
I just think the average guy can build nice collections too.

I went to my LCS looking for 1894-S or 81CC and 85CC and got side tracked and bought a 1921 Peace dollar in AU and 27 Peace dollar in MS.

Really nice set! Congrats! Let us know when you complete it, maybe a 93-S will walk into the shop you help out at sooner than later.

Wow very nice set! It's clear that this is a collection you are proud of and you should be! It's not about buying the most expensive coins, but instead it's about enjoying what you collect. The first coin of any real value that I received was a CC morgan from my step-father when I was 13 years old. For 20 years, I've brought that coin with me every time I moved states/houses etc. For the last 8 years it sat in a safety deposit box and I pretty much forgot about it. Just recently my bank was closing and I had to clear out my box. There was the CC Morgan and it brought back so many memories. Since then, I've spent WAY too much time on forums like this trying to learn as much as I can. I've bought several coin books and one specifically on Morgans. Also I've bought a few coin grading books to help me learn how to grade. I thought it would be fun to start collecting a set and I did purchase a few additional coins. The problem I've run in to was starting with CC Morgans can be VERY expensive! You have inspired me though to press on!

You can get most Morgans in near mint condition except for a few. There are other desirable coins like the LSH dollar where finding coins before 1930 above VF condition is not only expensive but difficult. You get to Fine or VF condition for this coin and they dry up until you get to HA seeing in MS condition selling for thousands. You can get the oldest Morgans in Mint condition and if you have the cash even the scarce ones area available. I think this is why Morgans are so popular plus all the detail to judge condition. However, there are many beautiful coins out there to collect including all the gold coins and early commemoratives.

When I buy Morgans online I only buy graded coins. So many are cleaned and slightly damaged in raw state you hardly ever know exactly what you are buying from a photo IMO.
I want to know what I am buying so I stick mostly to PCGS and NGC graded coins. Try to buy uncleaned coins with no "details".
