It might be Machine Doubling, which is the "Poor Man's double die", but not the rare and valuable true double die.

Because they are so easy to see ,the chances of finding a GENUINE 55 D/D in CRH'ing is virtually impossible in present day hunting .

I moved this from CRH to the US Modern Variety and Error Coins forum where those with the answer are more likely to see it.

What you are seeing on the 55 is die wear. They over used the dies on the 1950's wheat cents and all strange stuff started happening. But this is not a doubled die. It was often called the 'Poor Man's' doubled die, but is just a breaking down because of the die over aging. Note the over all weakness of the other devices as well.

to CCF! This is just die wear and because the actual 55 DDO was so rare. Dealers tried to market these, actually valueless coins as rare. It is hated by many, this marketing scheme

Your knowledge is almost as impressive as your willingness to help coop, both quite impressive.
How's your cousin Sheldon doing anyway?
