If it's "rare" (or unknown) then it doesn't matter what condition it's in. You buy it and then upgrade down the road.

Agree completely. This particular bank is not truly rare, but it's far from common. Why did you choose this note?

My philosophy with nationals: You have to take what you can get, especially for rare notes.

I buy notes in that condition all the time... but that's because I'm into rare and circulated, not common and pristine.

The census shows 10 large size known for this West Tennessee Bank. Personally speaking, when I buy Nationals I usually have some connection to the city or it's part of a state I collect. I also like Nationals with cool or unusual names. Out of all the collectors I know, National Bank note collectors are the least concerned about the notes condition.

Agree for sure. I collect unusual names, condition notes, and low serials - a huge ocean without an horizon. Others, like Wheatback and yourself, are seriously into city or state issues. National notes swamp federal notes in individual rarity but defy the "hole-filling" mindset of most collectors, which will always limit their value beyond the tail of the bell curve.
