Very Very nice Gate City Wheat. Hard to believe this itty bitty city in Southwest Virginia had two banks issuing National currency. Some of these small, rural towns seldom come up for auction or sale. I am impressed.

Quote: a State Capital collection of Nationals.
At first I thought, that would be cool and then I thought it may be difficult. Take Florida for instance. The State Capital of Florida is Tallahassee, and I do not believe I have ever seen a Tallahassee National. I've seen a ton of Tallahassee Obsoletes but not one National. Some State Capitals, like Florida's Capital is a relatively small town and other states may be the same. What do you think ? More often than not, state capitals had multiple banks issuing national currency. If you don't limit yourself to one size, I think you could obtain 75% of the states easily. Some banks may only have a few notes reported in small size whereas large size are readily available. State capitals that are likely to be the tough ones/stoppers: Juneau, Alaska only 1 bank operated here, 19 notes reported Tallahassee, FL 1 bank, 3 large size reported Honolulu, Hawaii 1 bank, several notes reported but notes are always in demand Annapolis, MD 2 banks operated here, 1 bank unreported, other with 16 large size reported Carson City, NV 1 bank, 1 note reported Helena, MT ; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Raleigh, NC; Salem, OR; Pierre, SD; Austin, TX; Montpelier, VT; Olympia, WA

Wheat - Just super notes. MV - Good input as always, you are nominated as the club's Director of Research, report to HR please for your badge. I think the state capital note thread is still a capital idea ( ) - I'd love so see everyone's examples.

I get a thrill out of researching and trying to answer questions. Other options could be collecting a note from the state capitals having bank titles starting with "The Capital National Bank of" or bank titles that mention the state somewhere for example: National Bank of Montana, Helena Charter # 5671 or First National Bank of Idaho, Boise Ch# 1668 While not all banks used either of these title block formats I'm sure a person could make a list of the ones that did and collect a set.

I don't think this counts but it does say national currency on top. I received this from the bank a few days ago. Is it worth anything? http://goccf.com/t/275541

This next example is from my Florida Collection. Charter #5603 is not rare in any sense of the word. These Escambia County notes are available in both large and small in every condition conceivable. Situated in Florida's panhandle, Pensacola has beautiful beaches and is a popular vacation and spring break destination for the younger crowd. The first Naval Naval Air Station was built near Pensacola and is home of the Blue Angels.

In this condition, given the edge tears, I doubt there would be any premium. Nonetheless, a quite remarkable thing to find in circulation after more than a hundred years.

Welcome to the thread @Pennywise142. Your series 1882 $5 Brown Back fits very very nicely. I've seen some series 1902 $5 Plain Backs from Charter #138, but this is the first series 1882 I've seen. Very nice example.
If you get a chance, can you provide a photo of the back of the note ?
