MV I would be curious to know if Montpelier, VT had a bank that printed banknotes as well as other small capital cities. I look forward to hearing about your findings.

Nice looking notes since my last visit here! And interesting twist on the State Capital idea. I think a lot of interesting ways could be thought of when collecting Nationals.

Pennywise definitely a cool note. The latest Kelly census shows two Series 1882 Brown Backs on Charter #138 however both are the $10 denomination.

NoteCollector Montpelier, Vermont had two issuing banks:
Charter #748 which was the First National Bank of Monpelier. Kelly census shows 23 notes reported split about evenly between large size and small size.
Charter #857 was Montpelier National Bank, Montpelier. 30 large, 17 small reported.

Excellent, perfect start to a display of state capital NBNs. What a super example.
MV - How about a separate thread before we get too far along?

I'm pumped about these. Picked them up at my LCS this morning. They gave me a call yesterday and told me a guy brought them in with some other stuff.

Very nice additions Wheat.
They both look evenly circulated. This is one of two banks that issued Nationals for the Franklin County city of Rocky Mount. The population at the time this note was issued was around 1,300 residents. Small size Type-2 notes outnumber Type-1 notes......but these are very scarce. Very nice examples Wheat.

On the other side of the rarity scale, is this Jacksonville Florida note I picked up a couple of years back in honor of my little sister being born there. My father was stationed at the Naval Air Station on Roosevelt Blvd, with the Blue Angel on display outside the front gate. I lived there when Hurricane Dora made landfall at St. Augustine in 1964. The population of Jacksonville was around 100,000 when this note was issued. A Florida city I was proud to call home for six years.

My notes (such as the one immediately above your post) are all taken with a camera, though I'm guessing most members use a scanner.
