I found this weird looking 1951 Wheat penny and wanted to know if it was an error or damaged post mint.

The coin doesn't show much wear or signs of post mint damage, but I wanted to get opinion from the experts.

Yes, this poor Lincoln has been bashed about the rim pretty significantly. Just plain old damage.

The 3rd picture shows the dent on the left side of the penny and it is jointed with the "L" forming a smooth continuous flat. Can a post damage to a coin combine the edge with the letter this smoothly?

@ross son, since the flat spots on the rim seem to be oriented opposite to each other, it is likely that someone squeezed your coin in a vice.

Thanks for the replies. I am sure it nothing. It it definitely is an interesting one because I can't notice signs of actual damage. But it may have been worn off over the years causing it to be smooth and of the same color overall

It was still good to ask. This is how we learn. What is obvious to us may not be so to others.

Right. Some kid just messing around. Did it enough times myself. Used to hang little spacemen out my second story window during the winter when I was a kid to see if they could handle the cold. Why I did this stuff I will never know.

T-Bop I already own all those quadrangles and I'm not selling.

Coinfrog, I would have never guessed you were a space bully.
