Quote:I recently purchased a 1968-1999 run of BU nickels in Mint cello and added the needed upgrades over the last couple days. Now I really need to focus on the first two pages (minus War Nickels) and start getting some BU coins in there! Here are the (nearly) 100% BU pages. I still need 1982-83 upgrades. Excellent!

Beautiful set! You make me want to go back and get all the proofs also!

Thanks for the comments everyone! @Earle42 It just wouldn't be the same without the proofs, plus they're easily obtainable back into the mid-50s. When I got my LMC Dansco earlier this year, I made sure to get one with proof-only issues. When I'm finished with the Jefferson album, it will have every issue 1938-2003 (minus pre-1950 proofs which will be slabbed). The satins may be in there or slabbed, but either way, only a select few will not be in the actual album out of a 66-year run.

Fantastic running story. I just read all of the previous posts and sure looks great to see how that set came out over time. One thing you should look into is those press on letters and numbers by Whitman. Usually available at hobby or coin stores or you can order from places like Wizard. I too like those Whitman Albums. And as you can see they are easy to add many pages to an Album to keep up with all the latest dates or whatever you like. This is an example of what they look like if you take your time putting them on. Nothing for plating so I used clad instead.

@just carl I've actually been watching a press-on letter/number set from Whitman for months now. I don't think it includes what I need for the blank page, but it seems there are other options out there. Thanks for the post and pic. P.S. Thank you USSID18 for the positive comments. I don't believe there are very many collectors who get excited about Jefferson nickels. I blame TNG for this path.

After reviewing the origin post: http://goccf.com/t/276885I cannot blame TNG as he never posted there. So, I blame this guy: He was the first to respond, of many. It's weird to be able to go back to posts like that. I have learned so much since that topic and most of it was from fellow members.

Oddly enough it appears there are some variations to them. Not sure how or why or where available but I've found some different ones at different places. For example the ones on the Whitman web site are a little different from the ones I've purchased at coin shows. Also, some different ones at a coin shop near me. Not sure why different but they are.

I'm working on a Jefferson Collection and actually really enjoy them. Good/tough hunting to find "well struck" coins that are in excellent condition. I'm not worry about the "full steps" issue for my album, and instead is focusing on coins with really good "eye appeal" and "great luster" and "solid strikes". Not many are crazy/expensive (some of the earlier years and proofs can run you a bit), but a very "achievable" album over a good year or two. If you go for a few of the variations (overstrikes, DDs), then it could be much more challenging (and costly). Michael

There is no obligatory wallet crusher in the series. There is no hole to fill that requires mucho dollars in low grade. If you want, you can upgrade to coins that are very, very expensive. Check this out: That's right, $32,900 for a 1949-D/S MS-67FS.
