My net grade would be in the VF range because of porous surfaces.

Well, whomever sent it in for grading had some inside help at NGC or the graders were in a big hurry to finish out the week!

Grade aside, I think it's quite attractive.

Here's the image NGC took during the grading process. I've seen a lot of VF+ pieces I'd pay more for than this coin.

It's one of the hottest coins on GC. Current bid is $642.

Those big old seated monsters took some hits, as did this one, but there isn't any single distractions of note, just a lot of tiny hits.

Certainly original which is a big plus in my book.

It ended up selling for $763. I bid with a very sneaky increment at the last second and still lost.

I think the lesson to be taken away from this is that there is a lot of pent up demand for coins with unmolested surfaces.

You are right MikeF, unmolested Liberty Seated dollars are in demand but they must also have
original skin and have eye appeal. IMO as the underbidder on this coin you were actually the
winner.

I like the coin, but wouldn't spend AU50 money on it

I agree it was overgraded but going forward I think it's a safe bet to assume that everyone interested in purchasing a sld with original skin can EXPECT to overpay for the darn things. Very few come up for auction.
