One who could evaluate an album of over 350 World coins, representing over 50 countries.

I don't know how to go about this. Would appreciate any advice from long-standing members or moderators.

Start by posting pictures of the coins. Also let us know what kind of countries and what the dates of the coins are.
Rest in Peace

to the forum!

w/ keepcalm, try to get pix of each page, sized and in focus to at least see some detail. Those on here may request closeups of certain coins, others may offer to buy individual/page or whole collection. Depending on which country, dates, varieties, etc. your collection ( inherited perhaps?) could have great value, not only sentimentally, but current coin values. Be waiting to see and help if I can!

Keepcalmandcoinon - love your user name - I apologize for the vagueness of my post. I don't have the capability to take/post pics to this site. The magnitude of the task is going to require external communication of some sort (I'm not allowed to use the forum email). Thanks for replying.

I'd recommend using this website to help you identify and get an idea of possible value of the coins: http://coinquest.com/

Dith Pran - thanks for the reply. My problem with sites such as that is that I've never sold a coin and I'm not equipped for coin photography. I have the same issue here at CCF when I would like to post a pic of one of my coins. Until I can get the equipment I will mainly be just a lurker.

In this instance (the album) I need someone I can trust and talk to them directly by either phone, email or snail mail.

That website has a pretty large database of coins. It is designed for newcomers to be able to identify coins without having much expertise. No photography required. I'd be happy to help you if you need someone to email.

@herbaby, first welcome to CCF and thank you so much for becoming a supporter! Second, I agree that this sounds like a big task. Most likely, there are a bunch of coins in there that aren't worth too much, but there may be some that do have significant value. Your easiest (and least profitable) pathway is to simply walk into a local coin dealer and sell this collection to them.

If you are willing to put in a small amount of effort, it seems to me that, right off the bat, you could separate out coins that are gold or silver from all the others. If these comprise the majority of the collection, then you probably should be dealing with an online auction house, but if there are only a few then posting here (smartphone pics can be reasonably good) could be useful. If you wanted to dig a little more deeply, you could compile and post a list here in this thread (country, date, and denomination) and we could offer opinions about which ones are worth looking into a little further. Yes, this is a bit of a chore, but it might be a nice way to learn a little geography and history.

How many genuine silver coins are in the total of 350?
(not just modern base metal circulating 'tourist' change)

That should give you some idea if it is a genuine collection, or just an accumulation of modern base metal tourist coins.

If there is a large amount of duplication of designs, it would also appear to be a just an accumulation of tourist coins - even with 350 coins such an accumulation is worth very little.

Start with the basics.

What date ranges do you see?
What are the countries represented?
Are the coins bright and shiny, a little scuffed up like pocket change, or heavily worn?

Pick a few random examples, and anything that "stands out" and describe it. Country, date, and denomination is enough for us to get a general idea.

the basics start with the album. Is it a generic album or a custom album for the collection?. If its a custom album then it should be fairly easy to see what coins are represented. If its a generic album then its something an individual has put together.
