Very pleasing coin, but those digs on George's cheek and nose do not help. More attractive, and more valuable than my example.

Slight wear on the highest points only, so on wear alone: AU55, (or Good EF, - British grading), Rims OK, These can be a problem with British large pure copper coins, but not a problem here.
Numerous small digs bring the grade down to 'EF comments'.

Too harshly cleaned and the digs will bring max value down to AF grade.

It appears that this coin may have been cleaned with metal polish many decades ago, and is now re toning.

There remains some of the original patina, to be found in and around the letters of 'BRITAN'. If the original patina had remained undisturbed, this coin would had had a very dark, almost black appearance over the whole coin.

What is extremely hard to find with British copper coins of this period are examples in 'RED UNCIRCULATED' condition. Black heavily patinated examples are far more common, and have a lot less eye appeal.
This factor probably helps to explain why this coin was cleaned with metal polish, by a well meaning person who knew nothing about coin preservation.

Strangely, although the cleaning has greatly reduced it's value, eye appeal to some people may have increased, and could be more appreciated and attractive to buy at the lower value.
That is why I have noted it as a "very pleasing coin" in the earlier post.

Thanks for all. No doubt that it has been cleaned (shame for previous owner). In your opinion - if slabbing, will it get a digital grade or "details"?

The statement answers the question. Here in the U.S., probably AU details - cleaned... and if they're in bad mood, maybe also "damaged" or "scratched" for that dig on the cheek.

There is the start of some new toning taking hold... under the proper conditions, given some time, this will tone up again (though it will likely always be too glossy).

Yeah, it would most certainly grade Details because of the cleaning. I would be at AU-55 Details.
