No surprise, I ordered the SD and the SD Silver Proof Set.
I think the "fur cape" that Miss Canada is wearing on the SD is very distracting and greatly diminishes the overall aesthetic appeal of the SD -- I think it would have been an outstanding design w/o the oddly shaped and presented cape.
There must have been a better way to incorporate the heritage of Canada's First Nations people into the design w/o having to resort to something that, IMO, seems like an afterthought that was simply grafted onto the design vs. something that was smoothly integrated into it from the start.
In any case, I'm a SD collector and have learned to take the good and great with the bad and OK of the series' designs.

Agreed commems, that cape is horribly designed and detracts from the overall image. I should never look at coins and have to ask "what is that?!"
I also find it odd that the Mint seems to deliberately avoided calling this "Miss Canada". They use words like "a contemporary take on a classic female allegory" or just italicized "Canada". I suppose that is some sort of PC speech.
With the design and the 30k mintage, I don't see these selling as quickly as the previous SD so I'll hold off ordering for now. I need to find something else to get to $130 to use that MC redemption code lol.
Looking forward to seeing images after your receive the coins.

Just adding some thoughts on the SD:
The 13 rays of lights, one for each province and territory, is mildly clever but it's also historically out of place for a coin that purports to celebrate Canada's beginnings.
By comparison, if our neighbours to the south were to mint a coin celebrating 1776, would they incorporate symbolism of all 50 states, or just the 13 colonies?
Perhaps the designer's idea was to combine the 13 lights with our relatively modern flag to mix our origins with modern day?
It's also strange that the narrative suggest the wreath of poppies is from O Canada in French. The anthem mentions flowers but I don't think it specifically calls them poppies. Again, that seems to be another small anachronism to somehow include modern symbols of Canada.
I think this coin will look better in hand (as most do) and especially if the primary image is in relatively high relief.

I'm curious why is the mintage so high at 30k? Previous special edition SDs have mintages around the 10k mark (or less). Plus this coin does not appear to have the "Canada 150" logo.

This new SD is not a Special Edition SD, it is actually the "regular" annual SD release for 2017. The previous SD was the "Special Edition" release - a reverse release order vs. previous years. The RCM did up the mintage for this year's regular SD - from 20K to 30K. I guess they anticipate a higher sales volume based on its 150th anniversary theme. Neither of the 2017 SDs released so far have the anniversary logo on the coin, but it is featured on the outer box of each.

Agree as well, everytime I see 4 hands, even knowing that this is the cape. Just this one looks much more interesting for me, rather than previous SD with Canada map and "150" across it.

Got it, so then the regular SD mintage is upped from 20k to 30k.
Thanks for the clarification.

No much news, discussions. Probably, March release didn't do "this" to us. But the April.....as per other forum - a lot of specially wrapped overpriced rolls, that couldn't be found at the banks... And seems to be, distribution of the circulation packs is over, in the Mint, "smart heads" understood, that rolls is the way to make money, and not the packs...

Silveroid,
What was the price on the rolls you mentioned? I figured I'd try my luck just going to the bank every few weeks and asking if they had any.

On the other forum appears the price of CAD 22+ for "Special wrap" roll of quarters. yes, you right, we can get the rolls at the bank, but they will be without 'special' paper with some print, for which RCM charging extra

So a roll of quarters with a $12 piece of paper holding them together? I'll still try my luck at the bank.
Edit:
On second thought, a roll of pennies with a $9.50 piece of paper holding them together turned out to be a bargain. But that was of the last million minted.

Silveroid "or 10 per MC"
I'm MC Platinum. The web site only let me buy 1. Is the limit of 10 if you phone it in or higher lever MC?
